Ritz I thought you were going with the other lineup?

Some wise old man told me that I should do the lineup I posted so I'm following his advice.

No I didn't PM Shane but I will now.

I did not like putting Wade boggs in the 2 hole, but i had to... His OPB and lack of strikeouts were amazing for a 2 spotter, but he grounded into way to many double plays... Not sure if i can rearrange my lineup any other way...

I really thought Milk was gonna use that last WC on Bob Feller. To me, Feller is the 3rd best pitcher of all time, right Behind Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson. If you look at his numbers, he won 100 more than he lost with a 3.25 career era. Add to that, he missed four years to the war at a time before and after he left when he has a four year average of 26 wins per year. Without the missed years in his prime, he's a 350 game winner and 10 time strikeout champ

Feller was a great pitcher but to say he's the 3rd best of all time is a bit of a stretch IMO. He lead the league in strikeouts 7 times so you are assuming his missed war years he wins it all 3 times. He also lead the league in walks 4 times so that might have been higher too. He allowed a league high in H/9 a few times as well. Wins and losses are a team stat. Great pitcher yes, top three? Not IMO.

i guess it is tough for a yankee fan below the age of 30(for a couple more months) to not have a man crush on Mariano!!!

I wanted to use my WC pick on Miguel Cabrera but needed a LF badly so I took Shoeless Joe instead.

I really was more interested in owning the best name ever in sports Urban Shocker, and i needed a lefty pitcher before that, so i had to have made the Bob Feller decision before i drafted Coveleski... and i was getting into the groove back then...

Just my opinion, but Feller won 25 and struck out 260 the year before he left for the war. After four years, his first year back he won 26 and struck out 348. Conservative #'s would be an extra 80 wins and 1000K's

After Johnson and Mathewson, there are probably 10 that could make a case IMO. Feller, Grove, Young, Gibson, Carlton, Koufax, Unit, Maddux, Clemens

Young is the hardest to place for me. His career started in 1890, and he played for the Spiders, Perfectos, Americans, Naps and Rustlers. He didn't strike many guys out. On the other hand... He won 511 freaking games....lol

Which is my favorite use of the WC in the draft.

He struck out 300 only once I think it's a bit of a stretch to think he would have accumulated 1,000 strikeouts in those 3 years, probably closer to 700 would be more realistic.

The most strikouts he ever had was that year he had 348 then it dropped to 196, 164, 108, 119, 101, 81

The key is, he was averaging 260 the 3 years before he left, was gone 4 years, then struck out 348 his first year back. That's like saying Jordan would have averaged 15 a game when he was playing baseball, as he did with Washington. . He did drop after that, but it's hard to imagine the 4 years between 260 and 348 would have been 175 per year. The sub 200 totals were the last year's of his career. The years he missed were in his prime.
