Yes...we know this.

The annual value of a contract includes bonuses...this is the market. Not the franchise tag.
All of that is included

No shit...we have stated that.

The annual salary is not the annual value. The contract value has bonuses involved. Salary 15 million with a roster bonus of 3 million, and an amortiz3d signing bonus of 5 mil/...annual value is 23 million.

Franchise tag simply goes off of salary.

So you are wrong...got it.

My scenario was an eight million dollar difference...that isnt semantics.

You keep throwing around the tag number and pretending that is the market but it is not even close.

We will see...it is book marked. And you have also stated we want to keep the entire DL together.
we can do that if we want to , key being if we want too and it wont be because god forbid we paid sherrf 18 mil in 21

I agree...but we won’t be resigning BS at that rate and keep everybody else.
most definitely we can without a doubt . we have 140 mil in 22 and it will go up every year, so when guys like allen payne sweat ionman and chase come up we can sign them if we elect to do so .

. settle is a BU and if we choose to keep him i am sure we could do that . however the team may elect to put money elsewhere

its a matter of choice not a matter of means and i am not responsible if the choose another direction

sherrf can sign a LTD , and they can structure the contract with signing bonus' escalators performance and injury clauses and guaranteed money upfront

there will be lots of 1 year deals this year because of the windfall of the new TV contract . Disney already has signed their deals and fox , nbc and cbs are in line to pay DOUBLE their last contract

Anyone want to make the argument that Riley Reif is a better football player then BS ? He was paid 17.7 mil last year .

now you all can bitch about paying 18 mil for a damn OG when our starting LT costs a mere 2.5 mil far below even the mean for a LT .

So does it really matter how your budget for o/ line is distributed ?

again the cap argument doesn’t fly

Riley Reiff is a LT. The market for a LT is as high as 23 million per year. There are five tackles making more than 15 million/.

Yes it matters how the money is spent. It is called value, and it matters. If you are spending 3 million more on a G, than every other guard in he league, that means you cannot spend that three million on a WR where the value is closer to 20 million.

I don’t think so , I think you budget how much you want to spend on the o/ line and pay your players accordingly based on performance .

It’s archaic thinking that just because are labeled an OG but one of the best o/ lineman in the NFL but that a 3rd rate tackle gets paid more just because he has a title .

The CBA addressed this backward thinking by not differentiating C , OG , or OT but by calling them o/ lineman when it comes to tagging

now if it makes you sleep better paying Lucas 18 mil. And paying BS 2.5 mil then God bless your soul . But in the end we are at the same place financially
And in no world are reif or for that matter Lucas or Moses approach the type of player BS is and hence their job title doesn’t over ride that fact

you get what you pay for

Do you believe that every position on the OL is equally important and equally easy to fill? If you do, then your argument makes sense. The problem is, nobody actually believes this. The blind side is the most important position on the OL, and the NFL salaries hold this to be true.

How is it archaic? It is archaic to believe all positions are equal in importance, skill, and availability of skilled players. It isn’t a title. It is a position, just like RB is valued far lower than other positions.

The CBA does no such thing. That is equivalent to saying DT and DE are equals. Why do you think NE didn’t franchise Thuney? The position is not as well paid because it is easier to fill and requires less skill and ability.

Why would I pay Lucas 18 million when we can probably pay him 10 million?

It isn’t the same place financially. We have a higher percentage of the cap invested in a low return position. You don’t invest much do you?

Is ReiFA getting paid 18 million this season? Nope. Why not? Because the cap dropped by 15-20 million, 30 million over what was expected at the time of his signing. From there, the average annual value of Reiff’s contract was 11.5 million/year...and that is what matters. Even you said, teams structure contracts. They saved money early in the contract and owe more late.

Again if you budget a cost for the o/ line at price X. It doesn’t matter how it’s given out Lucas is our starting LT and provided he stays healthy and plays the way he did last season we are fine . It doesn’t matter if BS makes 18 mil we are still at the same spot we would be if we were paying close to market value for a LT . An all pro guard is better then lowercase tackles every day of the week .
we are not on any cap trouble all the way to the 24 season , we can sign any of the guys we want to retain period
If we pay BS 18 mil this yr so what ? We will either get a LTD done or we find out if we have a young guy on our roster who can take his place .

there is absolutely no reason to make another hole we have to fill in a year where I doubt we see many LTD’s being made because the windfall of the new TV deals kick in

I will jump in here. lol. Im not doubt Bs's talent but there was no one that was going to give him a long term deal at 18 per season. If we let him hit free agency the market would of determined his price and we still could offer him a long term deal but it would be way less than 18m per season. Sure we risk losing him but could of matched any other teams offer on a long term deal. I dont get the point of tagging him this year.

not this year for sure . he wouldnt get 18 mil but next year ... who knows . he is under no obligation to let us match any offer . we dont have a replacement , and perhaps they want a yr to sort it out . pretty simple . and it doesnt hurt us at all because we are way below paying market value at LT
