It takes more preparation to play man defense and work on how to defend specific play types from opposing teams.

The reason teams don’t play 1/3/1 is because of where the defense is vulnerable.

1/3/1 often leaves corner shooters open, and the corner 3 is one of the most sought after shot attempts for offenses.

Backboard involvement on a 3 pt shot is rarely a positive. Shooting the shortest possible 3 on the court? Definitely a positive.

Not good for getting back on defense though...
