As a Horns fan, this kid is absolutely one of the best human beings you could ask for, football aside. No drama, ever. Leadership, film study, deans list.

Now add his skills on the field not just at cb, but playing in every position back there and excelling.

Hes not Surtain, but he is VERY special. Never thought in a million years he'd drop to 20.

I was thinking about this with the Chargers taking Hampton after they signed Harris to a deal...I'm not sure this pick makes much sense. They do a lot of the same things and both are pretty reliant on bulk carries to really maximize their games. They get better as the game goes on when they can get into a rhythm. If they are splitting carries I think it hurts both of them value wise. I think Henderson would have made more sense if he passed his medicals with them as a nice compliment to what they already have.

Waited until morning to comment, but I really like this pick and think that the Broncos got a ton of value here. I said it all year that while this defense was good last year it feasted on bottom tier teams and struggled against the top offenses. The Bills, Bengals, Ravens and even Browns ate this defense alive. Payton and Paton saw that given all the resources devoted to improving this defense and this fits right in with it.

The character piece also can't be ignored and Barron has it in spades. I think that comes from Penner down and really like to see it. I think they got a player that was probably top 10 on their board. Also, remember that Kamara was the 67th pick so plenty of time for Payton to get his RB.

Character is definitely a big one here. Payton at times has taken chances on character concern type players, but really some of his best picks have been guys with this type of makeup. And if we are talking immediate impact kind of guy here is one with high IQ that should be ready to go day 1 of the season and not feel like he is a liability on the field.

I finally listened to the Paton/Payton clip. Worth a listen if you haven’t yet.

Agree. And I say he's not Surtain mostly because he's not 6 foot plus and runs a sub 4.3 with great hands. But intelligence and IQ and his feel for coverages is elite.

They definitely have different skill sets. This is kind of like when we had Harris Jr. and Talib. Very different CB's but both made a huge impact in different ways. I could see the Broncos using Barron a lot of the same way of in base formation having Barron on the outside then in sub packages moving him inside to maximize the talent that can be on the field. I love Riley Moss, but Barron is going to push him for snaps in those base packages for sure, and Barron fits today's NFL that plays a ton of zone coverage.

The only thing it tells me is that Hamption most likely is another Harris. Just like most RBs drafted in the 20s. Will not see a 2nd contract and move one.

What do you want to do for rd2 thru rd 4

Do you want to trade 26 picks to move up in RD2 or RD3 or both or stand Pat or trade back

Are you RB or bust in RD2

Would you hate a trade up for WR TE IDL in RD2?

I'd be pretty happy with a combo of Kaleb Johnson or Devin Neal coupled with Mason Taylor or Elijah Arroyo in rounds 2 & 3.

No WR or DL love?

Would also be good to land a strong DL player but I'd rather go WR in rounds 4 or 6. I still think strong TE play and a good running game will elevate our current WR corp and a few of them are young and still developing.

Honestly I know people would lose their minds but it would not shock me to see the Broncos pass on RB again here in the 2nd round. DL is still a huge need and there could be a few names they really like here in the 2nd. TE will dry up pretty quick by the end of day 2 so let's say Taylor somehow falls into their lap at 51...that would be tough to pass up.

I have been seeing a lot that Sean Payton loves Jayden Higgins. I feel like these next couple of picks are probably going to be on offense...

Since three of the four major signings/1st round draft pick were on defense, I hope so!

Tonight I wouldn’t be shocked if we found more defensive pieces. It just depends how it unfolds. Upgrades anywhere welcome.
