I was going over Washington's cap in Sportrac. JMO but the four guys that would hurt to cut next year because of dead cap are Leno, Wylie, Gates and Davis.

I am not a cap guy so I don't know what a good cap guy could do. For all the guys folks are mentioning as GM, HC etc then will need a good money guy. I think Josh will understand this as well as anyone.

Look at it like this, cap hits are cumulative.

Charles Leno- If we cut him, we take an 8.25 million dollar cap hit, and he is off the books; however, we save 7.5 million dollars next season against the cap because Leno would be a 15.75 million cap hit.

Andrew Wylie- If we cut him, we take a 7.8 mil dead cap hit, and he is off the books; however, we save 1.6 million because he Carrie’s a 9.4 million cap hit if he remains; furthermore, if we keep him, he would still carry a 2.6 million dollar hit in 2025, totaling 12 million overall to allow him to play next season.

Nick Gates- He costs the same whether we cut him or not, about 5.4 million. If he plays next season, we would eat 1.6 million in dead space in 2025.

Jamin Davis- we should absolutely keep him next season. He is still on his rookie contract and costs us 4.4 million playing or cutting. Maybe things will truly click for him next season. At worst, we keep his rights.

Agree with Leno, you can cut him and save $7 million. It is still a cap hit for a guy that isn't here. Not saying it is wrong but has to be considered. What can you get for $7 million that replaces him. That is my point.

Yeah, Gates is $5.4 either way but if you cut him he has to be replaced which is net loss depending on how they replace him.

Wylie with the dead cap hit is +2 million .... what can you get for more than $10 million? you can cut him but you have to take $2 million off your cap.

Pretty close to the same with Logan Thomas.

I am not saying you are stuck with these guys but they can cut into you $90 million dollars one way or another. I'd rather be where Washington is at .... just things to consider and how do you replenish without spending an arm and a leg.

A lot goes to my beliefs in FA. Go get you a couple of mid price guys. I am not for high price tag FAs. Teams typically overspend and do not get a player who is motivated to play the way he did before becoming a FA. RR tried to do that but too often he picked the wrong guy.

Lucas can replace him or a draft pick. We also have another 90 million dollars to spend but this is a rebuild so I am picky on what I spend.

Gates has already been replaced but I would expect a draft pick to replace him.

According to Spotrac, cutting Wylie saves two million as it is a 7 million dead cap but he would count 9 million if he stays.

Cutting Logan Thomas saves 6.5 million.

Hopefully, this team is very thrifty next FA period. Use this as a true rebuild. If we come into the season with 40 million under the cap, great because it will rollover to the next season. We should have a goal of being the youngest team in the league next season.

We can cut Leno in camp and save 12m with only a 3.7 dead cap hit. Sucks that we can't do it before FA.

Right now we sit at 90 million in free space. If we cut Leno, we are up to 97.5. If we add Wylie, it is up to 99.1 million. Add in Logan Thomas and we are up to 105.1 million in free space.
