He was not less effective. We wer not using him in an effective manor
That may be, but he wasn't the same disruptive player he was in '22. What you say places more and more blame on the coaching staff for not using him or placing him in a better position to be more effective.

Not looking for blame. He was not fitting our scheme. Could they make the scheme fit?????

Again, a coaching issue. BB knew the walls were caving in and BOB had to know that if BB got the axe he would also. He never made any adjustments and stuck with what he was doing. He had Douglas trying to do everything on every play and should have tried to take advantage of his speed and route running ability.

2022 and 2023 were just plain brutal. Out with the old blood and a transfusion has begun.

Teams face a very heavy penalty if they attempt to speak with either a player who will be a free agent or even talk to his agent. Then again it depends on what team does it.

Word is starting to circulate that the NYJ are already sniffing around up coming FA OTs such as, you guessed it, Trent Brown. The Jets wouldn't do anything that underhanded, would they?? If it's true, you know that teams like the ones below would blow a gasket.

These guys will be cutting players to get under the cap and trying to resign their own. The Jets only have $7.5M under the cap. So why are they risking being fined and possibly losing their first round pick, if Goodell was so inclined.

Fucking sweet that the only AFC East team with cap space is the Patriots.

ESPN during the hourly coverage of the Super Bowl.

The commentator said, "Every team talks to agents all during the season and off season and the Jets, among others, have been talking to agents here in Las Vegas including Trent Brown and Donovan Smith's agents." (I'm paraphrasing, not exact wording). NFL Network isn't afraid to do a little finger pointing either. I just can't spend all of my waking hours watching all of the drivel.

We've all expressed opinions about who we would like the Patriots to sign. How about getting rid of a few and add some bucks to push those wishes over the top?

1. Lawrence Guy DE $3.5M
2. Devante Parker WR $7.7M
3. Adrian Philips S $4.1
4. Detrich Wise OLB $7.7M
5. Davon Godchaux DT $11.8M
6. JC Jackson CB $14.4M

Total savings = $49.5M + Salary Cap = $66M

New Cap= $115.5M

I'm sure that every one of these guys could be replaced with an upgrade at their position AND with a younger player.

Potential Replacements?

Calvin Ridley S JAX 4/$60M = $15M
Kyle Dugger S NEP 4/$60M = $15M
Xavier McKinney S NYG 4/$60M = $15M
Andrew Van Ginkle OLB MIA 4/$60M = 15M
DJ Reader DT CIN 4/$44M = $11M
Kenny Moore CB IND 4/$60M = $15M
TOTAL=$86M Remaining Cap = $29M

Sign:
Jonah Williams OT CIN 4/$36M = $9M
Dalton Shultz TE HOU 4/$44M = $11M

Resign:
Michael Owenu 4/$36m = $9M

That takes care of $115M.

Now draft Mayer or Daniels and a couple of WR to grow with him and the Patriots will be back in the hunt.

Some good thinking there.
I’d JCJackson done?
Keep Phillips?
The rest of your list is semi-performing and needs to be on a case by case basis
Example: Godschaux is still performing when the rest of the DLine is there

Both were out of the line up at the end of 2023. Can't say we missed them. IMO, that $18,8M could be used much better elsewhere. Even resigning Dugger for it. Lotta spots need cleaning up and wee can't have attachment to what once was. Guy, Godchaux and Wise are BB type holdovers and unless they want to stay for less money, it's time to go. I'd be okay with keeping all six of them if they'd stay for the Vet Min. That would add about $28M and keep six vets who would know their throats are against a razor. That would make $94M available to bring back Dugger and Owenu and entice some decent players to play in cold Taxachusetts.

With Edge players already a position of need not sure I want to get rid of Guy or Wise but I like the idea of having more rebuild power
