Deadline is usually right around the next draft. At least in the old days.I don't know if this has been posted but apparently the Mariners have signed all of our draft picks aside from Johnny Farmelo (29th overall) and Will Watson (20th round).
@NWinAZ do you know if there is a deadline to sign? Also do we get a comp pick next year if he doesn't sign?
I'd be kind of bummed if we can't sign Farmelo. Based on Keith Law's write up on him it sounds like he has a ton of talent yet does it with a severely screwed up swing. If he doesn't sign with us, once he gets real coaching it sounds like he could be a guy who goes top-10 another year.
Deadline has changed. I didn't realize it. It used to be the deadline was when the player first attended class, but now it is much earlier. I think I read July 25th of this year being the deadline. That surprised me.I don't know if this has been posted but apparently the Mariners have signed all of our draft picks aside from Johnny Farmelo (29th overall) and Will Watson (20th round).

The signing deadline is 5 PM (Eastern) on August 1st or 14 days after the last day of the draft, whichever comes first (July 25th in 2023).Deadline has changed. I didn't realize it. The old system.
When Is The MLB Draft Signing Deadline?
The MLB draft signing deadline used to be a shifting target that led to a lot of delayed negotiations. Now, it's been moved up to where it occurs just a little over a month after the draft wraps up.www.baseballamerica.com
This is where I got it wrong. My basis for my answer was the Josh Field signing. The reason Mariners had until the next draft to sign him was:Deadline is usually right around the next draft. At least in the old days.
As far as getting a replacement pick next year if he doesn't, not sure since it was a comp pick for Julio's winning ROY. That is a good question and I hope we don't have to find out.
