If we pick that early, it has to be a QB right?

I have us picking around this time. Picking 11 would indicate 7-8 wins. That would tell me that Wentz was not the answer.

What bothers me is that we had a "get the band back together" approach in free agency for the defense. You don't fix the 25th-ranked defense by bringing back the same coaches and players who are responsible for it in the first place.

I thought cutting IMan and letting Settle walk was incompetence at the highest level. We created a hole for no reason, especially if we feel Payne is NOT coming back. I like Mathis but I feel a 2nd round pick could have been used to address other holes. We literally restructured no contracts on the roster to free up any cap space.

Mills was fired mid-preseason but should have been earlier in the off-season. This would have given JDR and Rivera time to explore upgrades. I don't know a lot about Zgonina, but he does have 2 years as a DLine coach (not assistant). I would like to have seen a more thorough search, but they clearly didn't have the time. Mills was one of Rivera's cronies who was hired due to nepotism.

Bottom line is that the offseason approach showed a lack of direction. Instead of addressing the lack of talent on defense, we resigned McCain and drafted depth (Butler and Holmes). We created an unnecessary hole (cut IMan and let Settle walk) and used a 2nd round pick on a gap created by our own hands.

I am baffled how anyone can defend this front office.

Can’t argue any of this and now DT becomes a draft priority

Does it not seem that we are building the plane as we fly it? I thought Mayhew would have more authority over some of this stuff. These errors are rookie GM errors.

I know it was for show for the most part, but just watching the 1st round draft selection of Dotson told me what I needed to know. Most "bird eye" views ESPN/NFL network had showed the GM running the room while the head coach was mulling around in the back. The GM was in TOTAL control and the coach made the call to the drafted player. Again, some of this was probably staged.

That being said, with us, Rivera was in TOTAL control and Mayhew was behind him walking around and answering the questions. I would have to assume that this is how our front office works. I am sorry to beat a dead horse here but this CAN NOT happen. Rivera is NOT a GM and clearly has no clue what he is doing. It's obvious that Hurney and Mayhew are "yes men" and Rivera is in full and complete control.

A good friend of mine is a die-hard Panthers fan. I have asked him several times if Rivera helped in front office decisions or if he assisted the GM while in CAR. He advised me that Rivera only coached and had no position in the front office. He was perplexed that we have Rivera running our front office as he has zero experience. I am not sure why this doesn't bother more posters here. We can talk about excitement, faith, and hope, but the bottom line is that our front office is being run by someone with no previous experience. The front office is a joke and viewed as such by the league. We are burning bridges, offending agents, and creating a bad brand.

I tried to communicate this when Rivera got hired and was reprimanded for it. Posters were jumping up and down and acting like we won the Super Bowl after Rivera was hired. I tried to say that it was a bad idea, but was told to be patient. A blind man could see that it was a mistake to have him head up the front office. This was the main reason I left.

I just tried to post a video, but it is blocked out. To see how the league is being run and how most teams function, watch the youtube video titled:

Rookies React to Receiving Their Draft Calls from Coachs and GMs
