Big men are easier to defend; and they don't have the ball in their hands as much.

Plus, in the 90s, you couldn't do a zone defense. So the timing of when a defense tried to do a double team, was particular.

Now, it's easier to build a wall around a big man.

Also, I think it's a small sample size. One playoffs run is a coincidence, three is a trend. Some may say two is a trend, but I'll wait until three.
