This could be an unintended drawback of Simmons saga in Philly. Maybe Morey is so locked in on Ben situation or he has pissed off other GMs with his demand that maybe he’s sleeping at the switch on stuff he could get the Sixers. Sixers as constructed have a big hole at wing with Thybulle/DG (solid bench guys; neither should start on a team with goals). Powell would have fit this group nicely.

Agreed he will be on the books for awhile.

But, his 19 ppg ain't exactly awful.

The Clippers have very few means to acquire players of his caliber because we are so far over the cap and have zero draft picks.

But they have a guy who is younger, cheaper and arguably close to as good as him who they also need to pay this summer anyway.

They were in a tough spot, getting Johnson for him is a nice get.

Imo, This trade doesn’t happen if Simons stayed on his level from last year

Oh no I get Portland’s desire. I personally thought Powell would have had more value than what’s realized in this deal. And you brought up the 5 years (which is fair) so I was arguing from the standpoint of more value. I think he’s a really solid two way player that in the right spot could be one of the best #3 options in the league. Like him a ton. That’s all I was saying.

Yeah this is a hell of a move for them. Kawhi, PG, Powell… 2 way guys leading your squad. Who knows where sports can go with championships but as a fan of basketball that has the prospects of being a fun watch and follow. Playing ball the right way.

Before I saw the players included, I assumed Kennard or Ibaka was a goner.

Nope.

All the talking heads said the Clippers would be sellers.

I don't think they are done and they could shed salary.

But, they won't dump guys to just save a buck .

They got value back and a open roster spot.

There is zero incentive to tank.
