And why was Rondo in the last 4 minutes? Awful decision there, he was cold and regardless he shouldn’t be in
Rarely Blame the Coach Guy but was wondering the same. They needed a shooter in there (Osman, Love, Wade?). Didn't hear presser but imagine his reason was they wanted another ballhandler to try and free up Garland around picks? Still don't like it.

Why did they trade for Rondo at all?

Trade for Schroeder
Hearing they might be reluctant to deal the trade acception for schroder as don;t want to go into the tax. well, it's really being limited in the repeater tax they'd worry about. I think they will be aggressive in trying to deal Rubio's salary for something though.

Wade! He was playing great and he was actually playing pretty good defense. It just made no sense at the time but ohh well, shit happens.

Yeah the C's from rumor don't want to take back any salary (for good reason) and the Cavs were like $3M below the luxury. That move doesn't make a ton of sense but I would give up a late 1st for a wing that would be signed through 22-23. LeVert, Gordon, maybe even Ross. A lot out there though, it could be a name that hasn't even been in the rumors

This is a blatant lie. You should be ashamed of yourself, Gilbert isn't scared about spending money, per a Cavs poster on here.

the issue is they dont want the repeater tax clock to start this year since they are so close to it.

they know they are going to be a tax payer next year and for years to come and dont want to start the clock now for a team that is probably not there yet to make real noise.

i think thats pretty clear when a Cleveland team has consistently spent into the luxury tax more than a Los Angeles team. (cough cough Caruso).

It's not about spending the money......it's what being in the repeater tax might do for future moves. They'd likely want to put that off if they could.

Well yeah they definitely have young guys that are destined to be playmakers the problem is right now. Their 3 only real playmakers at the moment are all hurt: Sexton, Rubio or Mark. If not so many injuries, I'm sure they would fine with their roster. I am fine with them trading assets as long as it doesn't affect their 2023 cap. In that summer they could have a max slot (depending on what they give Sexton and/or moves they make).

That's what I'm alluding to. I get wanting to take advantage of what they're are doing and moving assets that give them a better chance to win now. But if they are patient, they may be able to sustain winning for a longer time. With the contracts that a lot of them are on (especially the core) they could be really good for 7-8 more years...longer if they really like what's going on with the team and stay put (similar to Timmy, Parker, Ginobili with the Spurs).

I do think it's possible some younger guys become better playmakers (heck, Mobley might be included there)....they can maybe keep the core together and still get someone at the deadline, though.

and he is tehcnially the 2nd richest owner.

Ballmer is #1 by a mile......Gilbert #2 by a mile--- and then the rest.

lol

Mobley was one of the ones I was thinking of. Yeah, the key, imo, is keeping that core together as long as possible.

Yeah they aren't jeopardizing the future paying one guy $16-17M for the next two years but I do think it has to be the right fit bc Sexton is more than likely back next season and he also plays a key role. Only reason I am hesitant about Gordon but again, they could always flip Gordon next season or in the offseason lol
