Well the only way I could see them being serious about a QB in this draft is if they want to put someone under Ben for those remaining 1-2 years... And if they are indeed serious about it, then they better be prepared to spend at least a 2nd Rd pick on it or else it will be "grooming another turd" like Landry Jones.

I'm on record for wanting a LB or S at 28, but I think if they wait until they "need" to replace Ben, they may end up having to pull a KC type move and mortgage some of the future to land that guy.

Not that it matters here, but I sense NE will make a move on a QB in this draft...it's setting up for it anyway.

And we honestly have no clue what the offense is going to look like this season. Rumor is Fichtner has history running up-tempo/no-huddle. If he intends to do such a thing then he is going to need a cerebral QB able to call on the fly (which we know Ben is that guy, but for the sake of the backup discussion...). I have serious doubts about Jones being able to handle that role, but not sure about Dobbs. Dobbs is a helluva smart kid so i think he could find a groove with it in a game or 2.

No we don't, but I can almost guarantee that Randy will get input from Ben. Whatever Ben didn't like from Haley's game plan...we can expect that to be minimized or eliminated.

I can see them needing to iron out a few things early maybe, but I expect a solid OFC...maybe a little less Bell (especially after 2 consecutive carries).

Backup...I honestly think Dobbs could give Jones a run for his money for the QB2 job...we'll know early on in camp if he's getting a legit shot, but I expect them to come out of camp Jones 2, and Dobbs 3 again.

Offense... I agree. The less tweaking the better. Let Ben construct the offense so that its tailor-made to his strengths & favorites.

Backup QB... My measuring stick will be preseason snaps. They already know Landry's ceiling, so basically he only really needs 50-75% if a single preseason game to get "warmed up". They aren't trying to groom him anymore so why waste the valuable experience? I'd give the lion's share of preseason snaps all to Dobbs. Then let the warmest camp body take half of PG4 like they always do lol.

Reading that Arden Key had a bad pro day today. Don't think he graded out very well at the combine either.

Guice didn't test out in anything, but did participate in the individual drills.

Face, my man, I know that and you know that.
But we also know and don't understand the love affair with Dirty Laundry Jones......
Maybe Jones was Haley's boy toy, but we'll know that soon enough.

I am praying that the love-affair with Laundry is over now that Ben has stated he wants to play 2 more years. If they hadn’t knee-jerk resigned him last offseason during Ben’s retirement talks I would like to think that they would have washed their hands clean of him this offseason. But being under contract for fairly cheap backup price, he’s still viewed as insurance. But hopefully he’s viewed as more expendable now.

Great point on the back up QB. Dobb is the unknown...they need to see what he's learned in a season and whether he can be a legit QB2....having seen this kid play since HS...I'm pulling for him, but I have no clue...I know he has the arm and can run, should have no problems with the playbook.

We shall see.

Happens every year... Some poor kid loses out on millions of dollars because of a workout injury. Remember Sidney Jones from last offseason? Feel bad for the kid. He was WalterFootball's 9th ranked CB in this year's draft class.

Fichtner was on hand for the Memphis pro-day today... No reported meetings yet, but BTSC reports that he was interested in WR Anthony Miller, WR Genard Avery, and QB Riley Furgeson. Also reported interest in a LBer, but I doubt it since Fichtner was the only reported rep on site.

Clip of Furgeson throwing deep to Miller:
