You take out the year he was suffering from the bilateral leg weakness, and the 2 years following the concussion.... and his BA probably wouldn't be as low as it is.
Additionally, Carew didn't have to face the defensive shifts that Mauer has.
The fact that Mauer put up his stats, primarily as a catcher....

You couldn't put the shift on Carew because he could hit to all fields, Mauer is a moron for not adjusting to the shift!
Who gives a fuck what position he played, since he moved to a less demanding position he's been average at best!
Mauer has also had better hitters around him for most of his career but let's not let facts get in the way!
