Houston is a big blow. The timing of the surgery seems funny. Anyhow - when you are a good team - who tell a player like this get well and get back for the playoffs. In the AFC West - Raiders are rising and the Chargers can still beat you - so you can get behind too far in a star's rehab.

I have read it wasn't that it was a tear, its that the ACL wasn't functioning 'properly' or something like that

Somehow instead of tearing it he stretched it out. So instead of it being tight in his knee it is loose and not working properly. The biggest issue for him is they didn't discover this until they were doing a knee scope in February and Dr. Andrews decided he needed to actually have surgery on the ACL to repair the damage. ACL's on the shortest end take about 8 months before a player can get back to the field with any kind of confidence. So that would put him back sometime in October. Again that is like best case scenario everything goes perfect. More than likely though we are talking November sometime of when he returns.

I agree the biggest issue is that they didn't discover it until February. The trainers and doctors on the Chiefs must suck.

Well usually when it is stretched out like that it is just an ACL Sprain that depending on the severity can be healed with rest instead of actually needing surgery. I think it is tough to really tell unless you actually cut someone open how much true damage has been done. So when he was having his knee scoped and they actually got a look at the ACL all of a sudden they knew they had to do something.

I'm not either but I do some work with a lot of medical professionals through being an EMT so I have talked to some people about some of this. We also when I was doing my training had to study some about the ACL/MCL/PCL and such. Not that I can do much other than stabilize the leg and get you to the hospital but it is something we had to learn.

Thanks I also have been an EMT - years ago and I work directly with medical claims - so I can see how the ACL if not torn wouldn't show up on an MRI, but problems could show up in a knee scope.

I will say I am a bit surprised considering how advanced medicine is today but I also do know when there is no tear they would rather see how it responds to rest for a couple of months first. I had that with my Achilles where it didn't quite tear but it was darn close so they put me in a walking boot for a while. Thankfully it did respond well to that other than now I have a giant cyst in my foot. Went to a doctor yesterday and they grabbed one of their medical books told me to lay down and then hit it as hard as they could with the book. Unfortunately all that did was anger it and now I have a swollen foot that hurts more today than any time over the past month. I'm sitting at my desk wanting another cup of coffee but not wanting to walk to get it.

I will say this for Tom Brady he does have a decent sense of humor. He posted a picture of him and his family riding on some horses and had the caption "This Bronco seems to like me more than Von Miller does."

Well they call it a Bible Cyst because the old way of fixing it was to grab the big family Bible and hit it as hard as you could to pop it. So he decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I think he ended up just angering it.

I had that on my hand and a book solved it ..Then lifting several years ago I hurt one my big tendon in my arm it hurt like hell and really no way in hell I was going to hit it with a book .. So my wife told me use tiger balm ... well after 2 or 3 weeks the pain went away ...I used the stuff another 2 or 3 weeks to make sure ..

after that I did no lifting for another year it hurt so dang much I was scared as hell to do it again . So I lost 3 or so years lifting ..

If I was you Tiger balm the stuff just works

I'll have to give it a try. I have a doctor friend that wants me to come in and do some ultrasound treatments on my foot and see if that can work. Right now this injury has taken my whole last year. Hate the feeling of not being able to go for a run without intense pain in my foot. Never had an injury quite like this one.

As for the book thing yeah it works much better on the hand/wrist. A foot is hard to press against a hard surface to get the kind of leverage you need to get it good enough. At least that is what he told me but didn't stop him from having some fun hitting it just to make sure it wouldn't work. My wife wants in on the action as well...not sure what to think of that with how excited she is to hit me with a book. Might be time to go buy some flowers.
