Get traded and go into the Hall in one week? Goddam it I've entered a parallel universe again haven't I?

Do you think he will go in as a Coyote?

Pronger is clearly a HHOF caliber player, IMO, but I'm right there with everyone else that he shouldn't be in until he is actually retired.

Back to Lidstrom, is he a top 5 defenseman of all time? I have Orr and Harvey as 1-2, after that it gets pretty contentious with guys like Potvin, Niedermayer, Robinson, and Lidstrom in the mix.

I think if I had any 3 on that list, it is a good list.

Oh, and I would add Serge Savard.

For the Savardian spin-a-rama alone. I think Borje Salming doesn't get the love because the Leafs for the most part were pretty bad when he was there.

Yeah, if Salming were on a consistently good team he'd be on that list. Even here, he's known as a great player but he doesn't exactly get the "legend" status guys who played on good teams do. Gilmour is far more exalted here than Borje.

In my lifetime it's Lidstrom number 1 with Niedermayer a close 2nd. Stevens didn't have the offensive prowess to put him higher but in terms of pure defensive ability he was about as good as it gets.

As much as I love Salming, I would not put him in Top 5 all time. He was my favorite, as a kid growing up.

In the debate yesterday about D-men and whether they play soft or hard, I thought a lot about Borje. His game was totally "soft" by some definitions. Master of the pokecheck, used great skating and stick skills to defend. Not a physical guy at all. One of the descriptions of Doogie Hamilton could have been a word-for-word description of Salming.

Agree on Lidstrom and Fedorov. Meh on Housley. Question big time about Pronger. Yeah he's a Hall of Famer but he just got traded this past weekend, to me that means technically he's still active. Shouldn't be in the Hall while guys like Makarov are not there.

Except Salming needs "possesses one of the most gruesome/badass injury scars of all time."
