Steelers are hard at work, but kind of a calm before the storm now...Dave Bryan of Steeler Depot wrote this article on why the Steelers might not take this kid and half of his reasons don't make much sense.

History was one of his more legit reasons....yeah, that would favor another position, but it's a different league now...if no edge pressure guy they feel can help early is there...that theory will go out the window.

While I still believe Colbert's board will be wide open in terms of positions depending on how the board goes before 22...CB I think is still in play up to at least Kevin Johnson.

With PJ Williams no doubt hurting his 2nd rd stock a little...will Colbert be bold enough to go Peters/Williams or Johnson/Williams?

Call me crazy, maybe I'm too hung up on the guy, but I think Ali Marpet would be a steal if the Steelers could get him in the 3rd.

Welcome to the Hoop Tater! :suds:

Never heard of Marpet? Care to elaborate on the kid? Or post some material?

Marpet is an Ol out of Hobart and William Smith and I believe the only Division III player to get an invite to the combine this year. He was the Liberty League 2014 co-offensive player of the year after not allowing a single sack all season, amongst other impressive stats as well, and posted the fastest 40 time of any OL at the combine this year. I know that the 40 time is a somewhat over glorified stat but I've watched some film on the guy and he possesses fantastic technique. Even by his own admission in an interview, he got away with some stuff in Div. III ball that he won't be able to get away with on the pro level. But he is a definite raw talent with alot of promise. His technique and footwork really is impressive for a Div. III recruit. Last I checked the mocks he was still being projected in the mid-late 3rds but I really think if this guy had played for a top Div. I school we'd be talking about him in the first. He has a few interviews and highlight reels on YouTube. Maybe I'm buying too much into him but I'm very impressed with him and think he would be an absolute steal for a 3rd round pick.

Welcome TRT.

Good review...idk much about him either...Steelers need talented bigs...sounds like he could be one of them.

I believe so. It's hard for me to follow the really minute details of Steelers FB way out here in the Kansas wheat fields but last I knew Mike Adams was still on his last year of contract with no extension. If he's set to leave, and I feel he should, Marpet would make a very solid reserve and if given a few years to develop I think he could be one of the leagues top tackles.

And thanks for the welcome, guys. A buddy of mine is real big on this site and has been hitting me up to get involved on it more. Hopefully I can broaden my Steelers knowledge a bit. Like I said, don't get a whole lot of Steelers news out this way. Lol

Just watched some of his highlights... Definitely looks the part! Great technique, fluid, strong frame. I'd love to have him on board!

And I would guarantee that if he were on a DIV I school he'd be a 1st-2nd rounder!

oh a member in good standing .. I like gandy he is a good poster
Hes a good dude all around. Very high football IQ. Me and him spend more time at work talking football than I think we do actually working. Lol.

So with the Polamalu Saga officially over. Even tho we all knew what the end result would be for months. And this may have been previously mentioned and I have missed it, but do we seriously begin to talk about London Collins as our 1st overall?

I firmly believe it too. I don't know what circumstances led him to playing Div. III ball, but somewhere along the lines some scouts dropped the ball on this kid. And if he does slip into the late thirds, then the NFL scouts missed out on him too. I think he'll end up one of the late dark horses that makes that last minute climb into the high 2nd. I kinda get the feeling that no one's really talking about him because no one wants to remind anyone else that he's out there. Just can't imagine that he's not getting alot of attention behind closed doors.

if london is there I say yes
I guess I need to start studying up on him a bit then. I've heard his name a few times before but until it was official that Polamalu wouldn't play I refused to acknowledge the possibility of anyone but him.

I'd go CB over S if Colbert & Co feels confident with either Peters or K-Johnson. I've seen Bud Dupree mentioned a lot as well. IMO, I see CB & OLB as a higher priority right now over S. Shamarko has been waiting in the wings for some time now. But the jury is still out on him. Its sink or swim time for him. I personally think he's going to get the starting position and thrive in it. Just don't expect to see Troy-like numbers. Don't get me wrong though, I do think S is a priority, just not as high of one.

Shamarko definitely seems to have the heart for it. But heart and ability are 2 different things. This is his chance tho. I would love to see him step it up and play the role. If the coaches have that confidence in him to do so then no doubt we should take a CB in the first. If they do take a safety tho I would say that is an indictment. Pretty strong indicator that they don't feel he's up to it either.

My thoughts exactly! We dedicated an entire thread to this discussion towards the end of last season when Polamalu was injured and Will Allen replaced him instead of the Shark. A lot of questions surrounding him.
