"With the 6th pick in the 2016 nhl draft, the calgary flames are proud to select
Daniel Tkaczuk"

:jaw:

lol - Yeah, some not great history with that last name - Maybe the Flames should just win the lottery and make it a moot point.

Saint John takes game 1 of their Q semi with a 6-5 win in OT over their 2012 Memorial Cup nemesis the Shawinigan Cataractes.

A bit of controversy in this one. Senators 2015 1st round pick Thomas Chabot with a huge hit on Senators 2015 2nd round pick Gabriel Gagne. Chabot gets 5 and a game for checking to the head. Slow motion replay shows it was shoulder on shoulder. Refs don't have the benefit of slow motion replay so I can see how they might have thought it was a hit to the head. But to throw out the best defenceman (if not best player) in the league early in a playoff game, for a play where he clearly didn't target the head and to Gagne's credit he bounced right back up and scored 2 points, is typical Q league reffing, especially in La Belle Province!

Chabot envoie Gagné en orbite! - TVA Sports (At about :35 you can see it in slow motion.)

Looks like when Gagne saw him coming he ducked a bit. So even if Chabot actually did hit him in the head you can see he clearly didn't target the head.

Windsor is hosting the 2017 Memorial Cup. I have family in Windsor, could be a good chance to visit them and see the Memorial Cup.

Go Sea Dogs!

/The Cataractes are poopyheads.

Well unfortunately the poopyheads prevailed. The Sea Dogs win the first game with their best player thrown out early in the game, then couldn't win another one the rest of the way with him back in the lineup. :L

Shawinigan's goalie seemed to have an off night in Game 1 but was probably the series MVP after that.

Shawinigan will face Rouyn-Noranda in a 3rd straight all Quebec final. Hoping RN takes that one.

Brandon eliminated Red Deer from the WHL playoffs this past weekend, but Red Deer's season is not over as they are hosting the Memorial Cup. Brandon moves on to play Seattle for the WHL Championship.

that sucks. Coliseum is still a pretty good barn. I enjoyed seeing a game or two a year (mainly when groupon deals were on).
guess it wasn't enough tickets. Though to be fair (reported), they have sucked pretty steadily for that past lot of years.
That's going to be a drag on attendance.

I wonder if they will change the name?
Having grown up in Langley, might I suggest the 'Langley Dudes who party in the woods and smoke a lot of weed'
or the 'Langley At least we're not Aldergrove'

weird that "bigger games" will still be played at Pacific Coliseum (teddy bear toss ... some weekend games)

Yesterday cesspool went over some of Toigos complaints. Pacific Coliseum has bad transit - what mass transit is there to 200th? I think the skytrain station at Renfrew is closer to the PNE than any station is to 200th

He also said PNE parking was a challenge ... maybe he means he got no revenue from the parking :noidea: The LEC doesnt charge for parking ... me thinks that will change now lol But that parking lot out there at LEC is a bit of a mess ... small hodge podge of lots with entrance driveways that are narrow

Anyone from this side of the Fraser will be paying a bridge toll to get to the game now

Although Pratt is so out to lunch its not funny ... he said when it comes to the hockey world and people attending games, Langley is the middle of nowhere  :L Has that guy been east of Main anytime lately? Does he know how much growth has happened in Willoughby/Walnut Grove/Cloverdale? Does the guy know pretty much all young families live out in the valley :L

I've been to the LEC a few times for gymnastics competitions and the arena itself is very nice. The drive out to Langley is no problem (as jstew mentioned, the Port Mann bridge will be collecting some additional toll money). The two biggest issues are not enough parking and leaving the LEC afterwards (it can be a nightmare).
