I was tempted to take Gilbert at 19. I really like his ball skills, and it would've filled a need, but obviously not as big as the O line need. So I couldn't pass up on Martin. I honestly think Martin could be going a lot earlier than we think. He really is a stud.

As someone who saw a lot of Dennard and Roby, I feel very happy to have gotten Dennard at 14, and I wouldn't take Roby before the 4th or 5th round. Their athletic skills may be similar, but actual gameplay is like night and day.

He is going to need a lot of coaching in my opinion and NFL quarterbacks are going to know he bites big time on the double moves so teams better at least this first year not leave him on an island.


Dennard on the other hand I would trust one on one against most everybody even his rookie year. The guy has some real skills. Still not sure on Gilbert. Scouts and analyst have him rated very high but I guess I just don't always see it. Maybe I am missing something.

My .02: Roby sucks but he might emerge with some good coaching. Sometimes if a secondary as a unit is poor, the individual star will try to do too much and will struggle. I know that was William Moore's problem when he was at Mizzou.

Dennard's problem is that he plays right at the line of scrimmage. He isn't fast enough to do that in the NFL. He wasn't fast enough to do it in college, really, either. It really looks like Michigan St told him that they were okay with him being physical and to make the refs throw the flag. That said, he could be good in the NFL because he is physical but he'll need coaching and he'll need to give the WR some space.

I'll be curious to see Gilbert's combine measurements. He looks like he has freakish arms/hands. He also looks like he doesn't want to tackle anyone.

I am not sure. I know there where a lot ideas thrown out there. Probably just have a group of people vote on a list of a couple of players.

That has to suck. Still plenty of great players though. Plenty of which can come in right away and help the Chargers go deeper in the playoffs.
