The preseason roster cuts are starting for all teams.

And looks like one player who won't be playing for the Seahawks this season is Heath Farwell:


--There was bad news for the Seahawks at linebacker, however, with Carroll announcing that Heath Farwell likely needs groin surgery after suffering an injury in Friday's game.

"Heath is going back east to get evaluated," Carroll said. "He probably has to have surgery on his groin, so that's a very, very difficult situation for him. He had extensive damage, so everything points to surgery. I think he's traveling tomorrow to get out there for Thursday possibly."

Farwell, a backup linebacker and Seattle's special teams captain last year, was far from a lock to make the roster even if healthy because of the emergence of undrafted rookie Brock Coyle, but now with this injury it's likely that Coyle has clinched a spot on the team, while Farwell will end up on injured reserve, quite possibly by Tuesday when the Seahawks have to cut their roster down to 75 players (they trimmed the roster from 90 to 82 before Monday's practice).

Seahawks have released OL Wade Smith, WR Kevin Smith, CB Thomas Wolfe, RB Demitrius Bronson and S Mike Dobson. Also DE Jackson Jeffcoat and CB Terrell Thomas.

It's too bad about Farwell. He's been a solid backup/special teamer for a while. He may not have made the team anyway thanks to how well Coyle has played, but you never want to see a roster battle end with an injury to one of the players in that battle.

Yep. That's the one that's going to really be tough. Bunch of them will instantly be signed by other teams, and of course SF will sign 1 or 2 to get a playbook debrief as part of the deal.

Eric Winston ? Now that is a surprise. Most likely not the last surprise.

Eric Winston is a bit of a shocker. With how poor the offensive line depth is, I figured they'd keep him.

The Seahawks have always made surprising cuts, so this may not be the only one.

What they are saying about Winston is the cut will save the Seahawks a million. If he doesn't sign elsewhere, he could still sign after week 1 when vet contracts are no longer guaranteed.
