Fans have catcher about right...

No way should Belt be 2nd (or 3rd. Or 4th. Or 5th...) Goldy should be MUCH closer to Votto.

Phillips and Scoots 1/2 is right.

SS is close enough to be solid as well. I think I would (un-biasedly) go Segura/Tulo/Craw, but I think the three of them are the class of the NL, so having them 1/2/3 is good enough.

3B is accurate. They have the right guys sitting 1/2. I am not concerned with order.

I am OK with the OF as well.

WOW. How often do the fans get the voting THIS accurate? I doubt it will last, but at least right now it is close enough to be SERIOUSLY defended.

I'm okay with fans voting. They decide 19 of the 66 players to go to the game. And for the most part, they get it right. Plus by the time players back out, get "injured" or pitch on the Sunday before the ASB, everyone who is deserving gets in.

For me, it shows what fan base is the biggest at the time (not necessarily the best just biggest). (edit)....... For instance, it's pretty clear that the Dodgers fan base are all Heat fans right now. Or they are just late showing up, as usual.

just to clarify before more people respond.......was trying to come off as joking/playful

which is hard to do in text....fine with fans voting when they do it semi-responsible

just think they should give goldy, segura way closer to the top and harper shouldnt be the 2nd OF imo

I agree about Goldy and Segura. But Votto is the biggest name 1B in the NL, and he is not having a bad year.

At SS, it is a legit 3-man race, and he have the right 3 at the top. The exact order can be opinion.

As for the OF, Upton and Braun (by the numbers) are the only clear winners. There are about 8 guys vying for the 3rd spot, and Harper is on that short list. Can't argue there.

And at 3B, again, it is a 2-man race, and they are both having decent years. Can't argue either way.

Carp is a homer pick, but he is having a good year. I have him as the #3 NL 2B.

Carlos over Upton? Can't argue too much. The NL OF is a cluster this year.

Who do you have above Carp besides Phillips? Scutaro? That's more of a homer pick, IMO. The only statistic Upton has over Beltran is SBs and Rs, and BA is what i was looking at mostly for all my picks (except Nelson Cruz). Upton is better defensively though. The OF spots were hard for me to fill out.

The Other Carp has an .882 OPS and plays practically flawless D. That's All-Star caliber. It may be less than half of a season, but that is what is supposed to be used as the criteria. I doubt the kid gets the popular vote, but he should be on the team.

I re-looked at Carps numbers, and I stand corrected. I would still give it to Phillips, but it is areal close 2-man race.

Scoots (before yesterday) was a distant 3. With his D, though, I would be willing to listen to arguments for someone else taking the #3 spot from him.

I don't think there's any "criteria." The fans vote for who they want to see play. The managers select who they want, irrespective of half-season stats.

It's an unspoken criteria, in my opinion. No one has to follow it, but the point of the All-Star Game beyond generating more revenue is to honor the best players of that season.

I only vote for Bay Area players because I want the taxes, dinners and presents from their bonuses to be spent mostly in California and around The City. Of course, nothing can be controlled when fans are involved, but when discussing the players that deserve to be there, a somewhat small sample size becomes the criteria.

I don't agree. It used to be that way, but that was 20+ years ago. Now, it's an exhibition event for the fan who generally isn't very dialed in to who is actually having the better year.

Mostly though, I yawn at this event.

Yeah, but it's still the best AS game among all the pro sports by far. But that's not saying much.

The race is heating up between Buster & Molina.

With Tulo out for 4-6 weeks, if Craw doesn't pass him, and remains the #2, Bochy can say "#1 was injured, I picked the #2 vote-getter". So far this season I am very, very pleased with the Brandon.

I'm very surprised that Scoots is #2 at 2B.

At this point, I hope we end up only getting our token rep (Posey, probably) and everyone else spreads out to the four corners and prepares their minds for the second half.

Beyond hoping, just getting a single rep is all this team deserves.
