The Bruins/Flyers winter classic would have made such an awesome 24/7 :(

I guess from a business standpoint it makes sense. There are still some other talents they can hit up in the West. LAK have an exciting squad, SJS are probably deserving, you get the point. They just need a northern friend to host.

I like the idea of a northern team hosting a warmer climate. Sharks and Wings seem to go together like peas and carrots....

Would the Wings be able to play outdoors without the aid of the extra oxygen they pump into the Joe to keep those guys breathing?

The NHL just boggles my mind some times. The Pens given a second classic 3 years after their first...the Flyers given their second only 2 years after their first. Does this make ANY sense? I'm sensing a real Pennsylvania bias :)

We had a discussion about this not too long ago. It's about one thing, and one thing only. $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yep, and it helped them bank a big old TV contract. I hope they go to Colorado or Minnesota one of these years, but the TV markets and large number of fans in the Northeast make sense. Besides, when you take out the Canadian cities and the places too far South to pull this off, there are only a couple places outside the Northeast left anyway.

My only wish is that they'd do something more made for TV one of these years. Like when it comes to DC, do it on the National Mall. Sure you'd have to put up temp seating and not have as large a capacity. But you could also put up video screens and charge for "lawn" seats. It would be awesome and the spectacle would make for huge ratings.

NBC and Versus just recycle the same 8 teams over and over again for their regular broadcasts so it would be stupid to think they'd do anything different for the WC. Really not interested in a Philly/NYR matchup, so this will probably be the first WC that I don't watch. Not that it'll make any difference.
