I think that could happen again. Heck, Alabama has come close multiple times. So has USC. and without looking I'm guessing Miami or Nebraska came close in the 90's.1.a2.0 BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK UNDEFEATED SEASONS/OKLAHOMA 54'-55'-56'

I can see it being broken. It will be a shame, because the context will be much different. They are more games, more plays per game, and more passing situations. And with only 11 game season. 12 counting bowl, and teams can have 15 now if they go all the way and they still ain't gonna break it.

Most players won't even break that record over the course of their entire career, much less a single season.
In fact, only 35 total players have gotten more than 27 career sacks since 2005.

The closest anyone has gotten since 2005 in a single season is 20. And that is counting bowl games etc. Von Miller comes in at #4 with 17. And if you are able to get only half the record, that's good enough to be in the top40 since 2005.

Those extra 7 sacks is a good bit. At 20 sacks for the season, that's averaging less than 2 sacks per game on a 12 game season. So that guy fell about 4 games short.
I totally get it. I am just saying the opportunity for sacks has increased enormously the last 5 years or so and I don't see that trend reversing. It will take a special player, but eventually it will be broken
It's definitely easier now for sure, and maybe someday it'll happen. It's just a crazy record.
By the way, my pt is it will probably be broken based on opportunity rate, but in no way should that diminish what Thomas did. It's an incredible record
A couple of Alabama players talked about breaking it as their goal to start the season last year.
I think they ended up with 13.
More likely to happen in the Big 12 or PAC. Just think about this stat. Texas Tech threw it 88 times vs OU in a single game. They threw it 59 times or more in 4 games. Washington State averaged 49 passes attempts a game. Cal averaged 52. In 1988 5 players threw more than 400 passes. LAST year 32 players did.
Did they just play intersquad scrimmages?Unbeaten streak of 63 by the University of Washington from 1907-1917.
It will take some time. You are still going to have to be a special player, though leaving early is probably a factor I overlookedIt's getting easier and maybe it will happen next year. But I'm betting it stands for a long long time.
