Well I swore to myself that I'd try to analyze the position the team was in after the departure of our former captain after trying to decompress.

Some thoughts:

- We're a worse team without Zach. No questions asked. Kovy needs to be huge, Elias can't start to slip, Zajac needs to restart his ironman, Henrique CAN NOT regress, and I repeat CAN NOT regress.

- Tedenby/JJ, one of these guys being a strong contributor would be huge.

- There will be a point during this contract where Wild fans will regret inking Parise to this deal. It may be in 3, 5, 7, or 11 years, but that day will inevitably come. Granted they may have a cup or multiple ones to ease the burden, and they'll be happy to take that hit, so would we as Devils fans. We all watched in awe as Parise was the hardest working player on earth, but in all fairness he has to fight for every inch. He's got skill, but it's the effort that makes him successful. He can't play that style forever. You see a guy like Sykora who pots 20 goals last season. How does he do that? He has a wicked shot. You know who else has a wicked shot? The LW who is still on this team. I'm infinitely confident that at 35 y/o Kovy will be a better player than Parise. Kovy at 33 will probably be a better player than Parise, maybe even 31.

-Sign Semin. Him or nothing. His numbers are insanely similar to Parise's over the past 4 seasons in terms of points per game, goals per game etc, etc. Semin is also a possession monster when it comes to Corsi. People think he's inconsistent, BUT we have enough defensive players that we can surround him with. Henrique, Zajac, Elias, Zubrus. these are all very talented two way players. We can slot him with any of those two (the other two get Kovy) and away we go. Semin can pot 30 under PDB. I'd be totally fine with an over-payment. We need to take some drastic steps to replace Zach. Being conservative feels like the wrong solution. Ovie Went from 65, 56, 50 to 32, 38 in the goal department under that system that go Boudreau fired. I'm not worried about Semin slipping a bit in that department.

unless the west falls apart in the next 5 years i dont see the wild even making it to the WCF. parise highest point total was what 88-90 points? that was about 300 games ago less wear on those legs and before a major injury. your right he does have to hustle for evey chance he gets and he still needs someone to set him up and make him better. i would love to have him on the team but not for that price.

i dont see semin coming here because if he was he wouldve been here by now. i would like to have him on the team he has tons of skill.

tedenby if he doesnt step it up this year then enough with the kid. same with jj if he cant stay healthy a full season then enough too. i havent even seen much to make me like either one anyway so far.

as for the parise/suter contracts....suter is dealt by year 4-5 esp if the wild havent done squat in the palyoffs or even made them. if either one of them gets dealt its him

One more thing I want to point out. In all his time Here Parise never got us past the second round and only past the 1st a couple times. Took a full season with Kovy to get anywhere...who's in Minnesota? Past his prime heatly?

I dont think Parise or Kovy got us out of the first round this year either. Marty's play is the biggest reason we got so far IMO.

I don't agree with Semin or nothing. We lose a solid player, then we must gain one. This team can not put pressure on youngsters to fill the void. JJ/Teds should be counted on to replace Poni but not Parise.

This has to be the year for JJ/Tedenby. We have seen that they have the skill and we know what they can bring but for various reasons they just have not put it all together and become the players we need them to be. I have faith at least 1 of them will step up.

I do kind of agree that Parise's game will suffer once his legs start to go, which after a knee surgery, could be sooner than later. I really don't know what to think of Semin. He obviously has the skill set but his character is so questionable and the fact that he hasn't been signed by anybody yet, and as far as I know, hasn't had a ton of interest from anybody, makes me think something really is up with this guy.

Yeah, but who's left that you bring in with the remaining FA class? I don't think Doan's going to leave PHX. Everyone else is kind of bad to be honest.

You can look at the trade options but what would it cost to get a Bobby Ryan or a Nash? Henrique, Tedenby + a pick? That's a lot. I don't think you're going to get one of those guys cheap. Maybe a swap with edmonton for someone like Sam Gagner would work out since they're desperate for defense.

if we are thinking trade its our defensive prospects that will probably draw the most interest.Who knows maybe lou has another kovy deal in him.

Well, Lou has to explore all of his options. He could try and sign Semin or Doan. While he could attempt a trade for Ryan or Nash. Or he could try and trade for a top tier player that hasn't been mentioned yet like Clarky was mentioning (Kovy trade). But he has to do something that will help the team.

We should expect to make the playoffs every year IMO. Let's not forget, we were a 6 seed. Now figure in we lost Zach. I was hoping Lou would keep Zach and replace Poni with Jagr. To make the team better than it was last season. Right now, we're not even close to what we were last season and we're talking about a 6 seed.

Any opportunity Lou gets to make this team better, he must.

Hoping for the best!

Let's hope injuries don't play too big a part this season. We were a 6 seed last year with Zach, but keep in mind Zajac, Tallinder and JJ were all out for most of the year. If those guys can stay healthy (JJ being the real question mark there) we should expect to make the playoffs.

I do like the idea of trying to go with a more off the radar trade. Ryan and Nash will cost a fortune. I'm sure Evander Kane would as well but that might be slightly cheaper. And Edmonton is loaded up front and desperately needs D as MC stated so that would be a nice trading partner. If we signed somebody and made a trade for more depth we have as solid a lineup as anybody in the league.

Bobby Ryan is the man to bring in for Zach replacement. IMO they are of the same caliber and level.

We should have at least 2 stars on the roster in order to succeed. I'd say Kovy and Parise were the ones. IMO B. Ryan could be a good replacement.

Ryan is the ideal choice, not sure he is the realistic choice. I agree, I would like to have another guy besides Kovy but I won't panic if we don't get somebody right away. I'm willing to let things play out, see what we have and what we need during the season. Maybe Zajac in a contract year elevates his game to a new level. Maybe Henrique continues to get better or maybe JJ or Tedenby really step up and become impact players.

Once we have a clear picture of where we are we could go out and get somebody who may not be available right now but will be toward the deadline.

You do need 2 stars 2 go to guys to succeed. You saw in clarkson he puts up 30 and then is a ghost when we need him. Imo u need that legit sniper. Ryan is better then pairse imo. Not saying that cause Zach left

That is very true. Having 2 stars is very important. I also think Ryan is better than Parise. Hopefully Lou can get Ryan to agree to stay longer than his current contract and he makes the move.
