The Phillies only went 5-5 on the road trip but they accomplished quite a bit. DeFratus overcame some jitters and finished a tough inning. Paps came through and Hamels won his third game! Great way to head home to CBP and the Braves for a 3 game series. Nice momentum both in the hitting and in the bullpen.

Looking back at the 10 games here's what key players did:

Delmon .485, 17/35
Revere .394
Ruiz .387
Utley .357
Brown .302
Rollins .279
M. Young .268
Howard .111

And now Howard and Revere are both out due to surgeries. We are going to need additional bats in the second half to pick up the slack.

We can only hope Ruf continues hitting as he is capable and that Mayberry somehow gets hot and stays there. That's a lot to wish for. Revere at lead off will be missed.

This is where I think the attitude the FO office is taking about no trades as the trade deadline encroaches is simply shortsighted. We have an aging roster. If no trades, then move some people up from the farm clubs. But to do nothing? Doesn't make sense.

i hope we trade m young and stick in fransden at third. we could get a few young prospects back, and it's not like we're giving up on the team. i remember in '06, we traded lidle and abreu to the yanks and everyone thought we were giving up on the season, but we ended up going on a run without them and finishing only like 2 out of the wild card

The additional bats should come from the minors. The team should not be trading for players.

freakycaligula, or should i just say caligula, i don't think we'll find any takers for paps. he's been horrid as of late, and not many teams are in a huge need for a closer. we should have traded him to detroit back in mid-june. they were so desperate, we might have gotten castellanos. benoit has been lights out, and they no longer need paps

It seems that the Revere injury changes so much. I thought we had a pesky .300 hitter like with Pierre last year when the Phillies made a run in aug and sept. Ruf should be adequate in replacing Howard, but there's still an IF there. Also, CF Mayberry would have to get hot which to me is unlikely but who knows.

If the Phillies do trade for a pitcher and M. Young is included ( I read that many teams are looking at him), then they can bring up Cody Asche (.288, 10 HR in AAA) for a shot at the big time. Papelbon should stay this year. There's no possible replacement. I don't think Utley will be traded even if MY is. As you can see, I'm still thinking the Phillies are not dead in the playoff run.

mayberry cannot play cf on a regular basis. we tried that last year in august and september... terrible. do we have any minor league cf close to the major leagues?

Which is it Caligula-trade or no trade? I like the idea of trading MY. I have read that we have prospects in the system but nobody provides examples. Cody Asche I have heard about but nobody in the FO is doing much. I say package MY for a player and prospects similar when we traded Abreu to the Yanks. AS it is now, we are precarious on the stretch run sitting at .500 post AS break.

Trade.

Get what you can for Young. Trade Utley now so they don't do something stupid like resign him. Get rid of Papelbon since paying a reliever $12 million is never a worthwhile investment.

I agree Caligula. Trade Utley, Rollins, Papelbon, and or Howard (even though he is injured) and get some young talent. Excellent suggestion but the FO is doing nothing. Simply stupid.

Howard is untradeable with that awful contract. On top of that, he is no longer the hitter he used to be AND he is breaking down.

The Phills are stuck with him.

Rollins has one year left on his contract. They might as well keep him as they will have enough holes to fill this off-season

Papelbon has a 2.33 ERA and a .91 WHIP. Well within his career numbers.

20 for 25 saves converted is not very good, especially 5 for 9 in one run games. his velocity has been declining for three years now, and he has gotten a bit lucky with a .227 babip compared to his .274 rate. his strikeout numbers are also down. there's more that meets the eye than era and whip. and i still don't know what team wants him

check out this trade rumor

If they choose to be sellers Dave Cameron of ESPN.com has proposed a potential trade that would be a blockbuster. Cameron imagines the Phillies sending Chase Utley and Carlos Ruiz to the Oakland A's in exchange for Michael Choice, Jemile Weeks and Michael Ynoa.

Would the A's really give up these 3 guys for two 3 month rentals? Choice looks like he could be solid and Weeks actually had a good rookie season even though he hasn't been good so far this year
