It's never actually occured to him that there's more to hitting a baseball than just batting from the opposite side of the plate than the pitcher

Him (and his protege Torre) do it all the fucking time.... Matsui always hit lefties and righties about equally. Yet every fucking time a lefty was starting, they would bench him in favor of someone who hit lefties worse than Matsui did
