I appreciate people being homers, I myself am one for certain players but to think Taylor is the 2nd best safety of all time is absolutely insane.

Too be honest IMO he's not top 20 safeties all time.

Not top 20 insane. Wow I can't believe he isn't a top 10 in your books. The man could flat out play. I watched him with my own eyes and he changed the game (the game he was playing in not how the game is played now) He set the tone of the game with a huge hit and the rest of the game receivers flinched when they went up for a ball and Taylors presence caused for many drops.

I dont think hes 2nd best BUT for one his potential was pretty limitless AND though his legacy and career as a whole is less impressive because it was so short I think he was better than a LOT of great safeties while he was playing.

I agree he had potential but if we talk best of all time he's simply not close.

He's not top 20, he had potential yes but you are overvaluing him because he was on your favorite team and he died tragically...

No I feel if he continued the pace he was on he would easily be one of the best. Each year he continued getting better and once his daughter was born he matured even more on and off the field. In less then 4 years he has 302 tackles & 12 INT's (2 for a TD). Maybe he wouldn't have become the #2 safety of all-time but what I saw he was no way in 20 or worse like you say. We won't see eye to eye on this but it shocks me on the huge difference on where we rank him. Oh well at least he isn't the worst running back in history like AP is. He certainly isn't awesome like Ki-Jana Carter. :suds:

And I agree with both of you about Taylor. If he kept playing, he could have easily been an all time great. As it sits, though, I'm not sure he cracks the top 20

there are players with just as short careers and were ALL PRO... not saying all pro means the player is better, but it clearly does mean that there were better players that season...

That's debate how much weight do people put on what if's. He was on pace to be a great and it wasn't like he was getting worse each year like some stars after awhile. However he did die in his 4th year so its so hard to tell what he could have done but I just don't see him getting worse.

*If he only stayed back in Washington. He had a knee injury and wasn't supposed to have been at the game. The burglars new this and that's why they new/thought he would be out of town when they robbed his home in Florida. A senseless crime.

He never took a play off. Players refuse to go to the probowl and when they do they don't tackle. Well Taylor never was like that. He went 100% every play.

Honestly IMO, he was never the best safety when he was playing how can we seriously talk about him when talking about the best ever. The 10 safeties that have been picked in this draft were all better unless you use IF and COULDA SHOULDA WOULDA...

To be fair he was an all pro his last season even while only playing 9 games.

Unfortunately he died and that's why we have to say "if". Why is to hard to base talent on what he did and say if he continued that same talent level for 10 more years he would have been elite. I guess the same thing can be said for Bo Jackson and others. If they didn't get hurt where would they have been. If Barry Sanders never retired what would he have done.

Well I need to stop because A) we have different opinions B) I need to get this test done before midnight C) I'm a pussy because I am getting emotional now thinking about Taylor. His death really hit the skins fans hard. Especially me.

RIP #21/#36

It sounds like you are answering your own question. Because he died, there is no way to say that he would go on to do anything. So all we have to go on is what he actually did on the field. And judging by that, there were at least 20 players who have a better resume than his.
