Well, the Eagles need lots of corners, so if their scouts really felt well about a guy like Jones, I would be fine with CBs in both rounds. But I agree that the depth at the position means they could take another position--say an elite WR, RB or OT--and wait until the following two rounds to deal with the huge hole at corner.

I think (and hope) that Howie will do whatever he has to do to ensure he gets Corey Davis in the 1st, and the best CB in the 2nd.

I'm hoping that there's a chance someone like Tre' White (LSU) or Gareon Conley will slip to our 2nd round pick - that would be just as good as taking one in the 1st.

I like him a good deal, but he was used on loads of bubble screens ... he's way behind in the route tree, but he has loads of YAC ability. Rd 4 would be good value for him, but he may go earlier.

Here's a pretty good article on his pro prospects, from an analytical point of view.

Reception Perception: Carlos Henderson and Something Worth Believing In - The Fantasy Footballers Podcast

Plus he's a good return guy and core special teams player, can never have enough guys with those skill sets either. I think he's going to test really well at the combine and could surprise some people his rookie season.

I keep seeing some of these Draft guru's projecting Derek Barnett dropping into the 20's
NFL Mock Drafts

If's he's there at our pick I would seriously considering taking him ... I'm not getting why some don't see this kid as a top 15 pick? I think he's a complete End.

Barnett is just as productive coming out of college as Myles Garrett; the only difference is that Barnett doesn't pass the eyeball test the same way. Plus he plays big in big games. I agree he is a really good player and reminds me in a lot of ways to what Brandon Graham has become in Schwartz's scheme. I'm pretty sure if he tests well Saturday he's going to be right back in the Top 10-15 discussion.

Barnett has been compared, positively and negatively, to...Brandon Graham.

A great college player who may lack the elite size and athleticism to be a great pro player.

Barnett has "elite" edge lean and balance ... plus his hand use (strong) is as good as any edge rusher out there. I don't need a guy to test athletically through the roof to see he's a damn good football player. I don't have much of a problem with the Brandon Graham comparison ... after he got over the injuries, Graham has turned into a very good DE.

One of the important traits I've observed over the years in college defensive lineman being able to successfully transition to the pros is their hand usage; guys who come in with good technique, being able to use their hands well to counter OL punches and shed blocks is a trait that follows well to the next level. Barnett is as good as it gets in using that skill to win his matchups. Joey Bosa was another guy last year that was lauded for hand technique and he made an immediate impact in his rookie season.

If we had two Brandon Grahams on the field last year, our defense would have been a lot better than what it was at times. There are plenty of guys in the league who don't have "elite" anything and are very very good football players, Barnett at 14/15 would be more than OK with me.

Both of you make good points, just trying to explain why it seems he is not a top 10 pick.

Because this draft is loaded at all defensive positions. He is a stud, I believe. If we get a CB and a WR n free agency, we can draft the best pure player available, and Barnett could be him.

And I remember a lot of people cool off on Bosa last year after the Combine where he posted just "average" numbers.

A pass rusher always has to be on the table in the 1st. The good ones are too important to a team to pass over a difference maker just because it's not the glaring need on the team. We could shed a lot of cap money if we got a young guy to give us the snaps that Barwin and curry take up for not much production.

At the same time, I am hopeful for Vinny Curry back in the 4-3 for another year. He had been bulking for like 3 years for the 3-4. We might get our money's worth yet.
