Burns has been placed on IR. Doesn't mean much as he's able to come off IR at any point but it does open up a roster spot for a possible call up. Wonder if Tarasov will get a shot on Thornton's RW.

Getting put on IR doesn't say anything about how Burns is doing. It just means the team wants to use his roster spot for someone else. His workouts with the team have progressively gotten longer and more strenuous which suggests he is getting better, not worse.

This is as good a thread as any to post this.

More proof that +/- is the most useless statistic in the history of statistics. Dustin "Pancake Hernia" Penner is now the league leader in +/-. A player who rarely sets skate in the defensive zone is now the league leader in a stat people try to use to gauge defensive acumen.

Which, of course, raises the question of when Burns – who no longer wears the “no contact” jersey during practice – will be ready to play.
