I guess the four team playoff system is better than nothing but while we wait on the Big Bowl cartel to get their palms greased during this long contract, let's have some fun and bounce ahead to a real playoff format; done with a twist of Vegas. I'll precede with a quick summary of why Vegas is involved.
First, imagine Condalesa Rice sitting in on a Vegas Odds makers War Room on any given Sunday. "Condalesa, do you know who Baylor is? "Yes". "They are playing Oklahoma, at Baylor, and the Sooners have won 24 of the last 25, they are both ranked and Baylor has played nobody...what would be a good point spread in your opinion"? "Uh, well...uhm...I don't know? I would think maybe -3"? "Mrs. Rice, do you know what Baylor's mascot is"? ..."Uh,...Bears I think"..."Good, how about who their quarterback is and how many years he has been starting"? .....(uncomfortable silence)..."never mind"
Hopefully you get my point on how outclassed she would be; hence, to make a valid playoff format one should first and foremost lay aside all the hype and get an opinion from someone who REALLY KNOWS who the best teams are on a neutral site. With that in mind here's a look at a real playoff format using a 12 Team model and infusing a selection committee that has real pros choosing the best teams:

8. South Carolina
9. Georgia

5. LSU
12. Baylor

6. Stanford
11. Wisconson

7. Clemson
10. Missouri

1. Alabama
8. Georgia

4. Ohio St
5. LSU

3. Oregon
11. Wisconson

2. Florida St
7. Clemson

1. Alabama
5. LSU

3. Oregon
2. Florida St

1. Alabama
2. Florida St

ALABAMA wins third straight...A.J. McCarron slips on fourth ring and smacks all his naysayers!

12 team playoff, fine, but i hope these aren't the 12 you'd pick.

Why is there a 5 by LSU and a 12 by Baylor? More importantly why is LSU beating Baylor?

Condi is a better choice than most of the people on the committee.

The seeding is awful. Baylor has 12 as of now. How?

I might be ok with 6

With 6 the numbers aren't even. That lets 1 and 2 sit at home with a bye, I'm not a fan of adding games unless all teams have to play the same amount of games.

Not any person better than the other, this whole system us a sham.

It has the potential to be a sham. Will have to wait and see how they do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of it. I do feel it's better than what we have now and is a step in the right direction (legit playoffs).

I have more confidence in Condi being objective than most of the 'good ole boys' on it.

i prefer 6. gives the regular season a bit more oomph. if it were 8 teams and a #1 ranked alabama knew they had clinched a spot in the field, they might approach the SEC CG differently, for instance. but if a win gave them a bye, that'd be huge
