But this year, lefties had a .790 OPS against Romo. Lefties, against Smith, had a .627 OPS.

I'm with you and would have preferred Smith. I'm just saying if Bochy was concerned about the homerun ball, he'd probably be more worried about Zobrist hitting from the right side at AT&T park

I just read Bochys post game interview. I get the impression he views Will Smith as a left handed specialist even though his numbers against righties are better

I didn't need a post game interview to know that. He had been using him as a loogy since he came over.

Which to me was frustrating because we didn't trade away a blue chip to have Smith pitch as a LOOGY. When I heard he was coming to us, my first thought was "Sweet! Someone to take Affeldt's place in the pen!" Instead, he was used as Lopez v2.0 and as our bullpen was imploding the last couple months of the season, he never got a sniff of the closer role.

I agree with ya dredinis, wish smith would have been utilized differently.

Which is utter crap, yes. Hopefully Bobby Evans approaches Boch with this and shows him he's actually a pretty damn good pitcher against everyone.

And this is what I think the bane of the 2016 SF Giants has been all year long. I know that Bochy has been a great manager for many the past years but his handling of the pitchers this year has been next to horrible. If Stokes can post non-stop statistics about who is doing what in our pen ... the team should have the same data ... somewhere. The decisions should be based on something tangible. I'm just not sure Bochy ever made a decision on any information other than what he thought himself. Prior to this year he could go the anyone in the pen and feel confident about the result. Not this year. Not at all. There were many calls I questioned as the year went on. Seemed like we were always coughing up the lead. It always appeared to me that we'd just keep using the same old formula no matter what the results were. This last game is probably the most disturbing in that aspect .....
1. Why didn't we leave Moore in on a short leash. He's at 120 pitches. Has 10 Ks and only given up 2 hits. Why turn it over to a real shaky pen when everything is on the line. The same pen that coughed up the lead the night before. At this point pitch count doesn't mean much at all
2. Why pull Law after ONE batter. Hell we're up 3 runs. Let the kid work through it. He's the best we have at the moment. Then to complicate it more.... give it to Lopez. As a fan I knew that was a bad decision ... I think everyone did
3. Not even a clue how good Smith is. Not a clue. Didn't anyone realize (or at least say) that he is very successful against righties. A big mistake
4. It took four pitchers to get one out .... four ... makes me wonder about the relationship between Bochy and Rags .... do they even talk and compare notes. What does the pitching coach think about these decisions.

I think is was simply Bochy trying to use what worked in the past ... but hadn't for almost all of 2016. I just find it hard to understand that Stokes can post some pretty telling statistics ... and the manager/coaches go against what they indicate ... somewhere in the organization there has to be a statistical analyst ... with the same information that we have .... just find it very hard to understand some of these decisions ....

I am curious, tz...

Did you watch the game and let the disaster unfold, or did you get the outcome imediately?

When I turned it off to go to services, it was 3-1 Giants. I had heard they lost the next morning by some irreverant Jews at my shul. I picked up from 3-1 last night, knowing the outcome. Didn't know HOW they lost though.

Just when the Dodgers rally tie to the game, the Cubs hit a grand slam, followed by a solo shot to take a 5 run lead. Both teams were tenacious in their respective LDS. This should be a good NLCS.

Hmm my first thought after reading this post was the Gs will have given the Cubs a better battle. We'll see.

It was a tight, tense game up until that point. And the wind was blowing out (it was blowing in both games of our series). The dodgers were also hitting a lot of balls hard.

Right now, I'm severely disappointed with the Cubs. If they are going to lose the NLCS again, they could have just lost to us. They look a bit Giants-like in this series.

Yes. But they have just faced Kershaw and Hill.

This year, Hill ain't no joke.
