I have no problem with this deal for Carolina. It's a low risk high reward contract. 7M is a lot of money, but if they're willing to give it to him, no biggie. It wouldn't surprise me if Semin is a hockey nomad for the rest of his career. 1 year deals could be all he gets.

I think its just the money on this. $7M. yes he was a 70 point guy 3 years in the league. but holy hell that is an overpayment for the OVERALL player that Semin appears to be. $5M is where I really thought he would wind up

I agree it's an overpayment, but once I found out Gandler was his agent I thought there was a chance Semin would get something close to what he got last year.

I dunno. When you look at the market and what he brings to the table, this is a pretty good deal. The worst case is he doesn't work out and they may trade him come deadline day for something. Best case is he's a huge part of CAR getting back to the postseason. Which I'd all but guarantee right now looking at their roster.

Yes, especially when you have a 1-year deal. You have to pay more if you are only offering 1 year of work. And given his potential, it's pretty low risk and high reward like many are saying. The difficult decision will be if he does well and what you do then...

But as someone said, he should be motivated by many factors - the big contract, prove the Caps were wrong, etc. If he can't get motivated this year, he is truly hopeless.

I'll steal from twitter

There are now 47 players who make more than either Sedin.

Completely agree. When the Devils were rumored to be in the running, I was okay with a 2 yr/$10-11M deal.

It's nice to see a couple of guys that go back to the throwback days of-hockey first.

these 2 could have held out numerous times for more money(deservingly so),as IMO they are in the top 10 talent wise in the league. They turn anyone that plays alongside them look like stars.
