Hendricks might not be 2.09 ERA good, but he has a 2.98 ERA over 70 MLB starts now. And he currently leads the NL in ERA. Something tells me he'll be in the postseason rotation.

3.34 FIP and 3.54 xFIP.

So he's still good. the skills are there.

absolutely. Him and the rest of the Cubs rotation have gotten a lot of help from the Cubs excellent defense. They probably wouldn't have an ERA of 2.89 with an average defense, but it would still be one of the best rotations in baseball.

I thought Hendricks was pretty underrated coming into the season.

He was a classic "performance prospect" who has up and down histories.

Guys like Kirk Saarloos and Tommy Milone have failed.

Others like Hendricks and Alex Cobb have succeeded.

The Giants schedule for example is much tougher. They play 4 vs Cubs, 4 vs St. Louis, & 6 vs the Dodgers. Cardinals schedule is tough as well while the Pirates end the season vs the Cubs and Cardinals. I think Mets will host the WC game vs either the Giants or Cards
At this point, I'd rather see the Cardinals as the 2nd Wild Card team than the first just due to their 40-24 road record. Obviously 'just get in' is probably what any Cards, Mets, Marlins, Pirates fan is thinking but I think they are all a bit too flawed to make a World Series championship run. Giants can still win their division and they're the Giants so I'm not making any predictions on them.

Yeah, they would have to be the scariest WC team out of the lot.

those guys also had low strikeout rates. Not a lot of guys with low strikeout rates go on to have long term MLB success.

I think Cardinals can play spoilers at the very least. 1 really good starting pitcher and a lineup that could put up a lot of runs and a silly good road record.

The pitching and defense is rail thin, though, for any sort of run. The best chance right now is to get one of our young starters to pull a Wacha or Finnegan going into the postseason and just hope that the lack of tape on them gets some mileage. Wainwright, Garcia and Leake aren't scaring anyone at this juncture but maybe one of them gets their mojo back, too. Combine that with Matheny's ability to botch relief pitching matchups and the Cards are a longshot without some changes.

I think if I'm a Mets fan I'm rooting heavily for the Pirates. Giants in the postseason is something everyone should want to avoid.

wouldn't be too surprised if it happens in the form of Luke Weaver... he should be good.

Typical Mariners free fall. 2-8 in their last 10 and currently on a 5 game losing streak

Absolutely loaded weekend with huge playoffs implications in the AL.

O's and Tigers are now tied for the 2nd WC spot. Houston is 1 GB back. Yanks are 2.5 back. Royals are 3 back.

O's play the Yankees
KC play Detroit
Texas play Houston

Yanks are 2.5 GB with 30 games left. After everything that took place in the first 4 months of the season, I'll take only being 2.5 out with 30 to go.

What I'm hoping happen this weekend is the following.

Yanks take 2 of 3 vs Baltimore
KC take 2 of 3 from Detroit
Texas sweeps Houston

If all of this happens, the Yanks would be 1.5 out as they head back to the Bronx for a 10 game homestand
