Tazawa's cooked.
Very possible.
years of abuse have finally done him in.
Either way Sox need to be able to get Kelly on the playoff roster.
Hell at this point I'm thinking Moncada too. Like Xander in 2013.
I don't think Moncada's as MLB-ready as Bogaerts was. He's currently sporting a 31% strikeout rate in AA. That hasn't stopped him from hitting .286/.388/.554, but it's still something to consider. Bogaerts was striking out in 17.2% of his plate appearances in AAA before getting called up to the majors.
Yeah, that was is more of a long shot.
But with the wa Shaw and Hill are hitting....he still might be an upgrade.
This could be true. The Shaw ride was fun, but he just doesn't look like a viable answer at 3rd base. Still think he might be a nice bench piece, but that's about it.
They needed to sell high on him this season to get the arm they needed.
that would have been fine, but the rotation's been pretty damn good since the ASB. Pomeranz has rebounded pretty well from his Angels/Giants starts. He'll never be a workhorse, but he's still a huge upgrade over what they were getting out of their #4/5 guys prior to the trade. Eduardo Rodriguez has been a lot better since getting recalled, save for his most recent start.
Sox made several moves for relievers and they simply haven't panned out (save for Ziegler).
All true.
Shaw doesn't have the range to play 3B IMO. He's got more or less fall down range. He's a 1B. But he's a platoon 1B. Him and say a Steve Pearce would be a nice combo next year.
if they're going to do a platoon, I'd rather get someone like Brandon Moss to complement Pearce.
Wow I just looked at the Mets schedule in September. No way they miss the playoffs. Only difficult games is the 6 games vs Washington
The Giants schedule for example is much tougher. They play 4 vs Cubs, 4 vs St. Louis, & 6 vs the Dodgers. Cardinals schedule is tough as well while the Pirates end the season vs the Cubs and Cardinals. I think Mets will host the WC game vs either the Giants or Cards

I really think they're done. Too many injuries and the pitching staff is barely hanging on, putting out guys like Lugo and Gsellman while deGrom and Matz skip starts.
And it's not like they're dominating their in-division games. They get streaky hot as an entire lineup for a week at a time, but then they all go cold together, as well.
If they managed to get one of those wildcards, though, I'd like their chances in a play-in game w/either Syndergaard or deGrom starting.
Very frustrating for this Yankee fan to witness this, and it isnt the first time
As the Yankees try to pull out a miracle, they get to face the O's, Sox and Jays for a month
As the Mets try to get into the postseason, they get to face the Braves, Phillies and Marlins all month
The Mets are going to the postseason, its gotta be a lock at this point.......
I love ya, but Im very upset with you and baseball
Then you might as well deal Shaw.
he'll have value to a team due to his ability to hit strong side pitching and be cheap.
If CLE doesn't keep Napoli they're a classic example.
Oakland would be another one who would be interested.
can you really call him a 5th starter anymore? He'll be in the Cubs postseason rotation.
He can join the growing list of Red Sox players that played for the A's afterwards.
Jed Lowrie
Josh Reddick
Jon Lester
Coco Crisp
George Kottaras
