Probably closest to regular lineup as we were expecting in the offseason:

Span - cf
Nunez - 3b
Belt - 1b
Posey - c
Crawford - ss
Pence - rf
Panik - 2b
Slater - lf
Cain - sp

Panik is 3 for 8, Posey 4 for 9 and Span 3 for 4 (with a home run!) against Anderson.

Yeah. If we were given this lineup in February, the biggest shock would be Cain pitching. Slater would be minor surprise, but he was factored in as an option from day one.

This is the Matt Cain we thought would be out of the rotation by May. Too bad he had to show up this year.

We got Dyson. I am scared to see who we gave up...

Looks like cash or PTBL...

Who gets shipped down/out to make room?

Dyson should fit right in. He has a 10.80 ERA and a 2.580 WHIP this year.

Giants Acquire Sam Dyson

Dyson and cash for a PTBNL

Dyson's fall this year scares me. You gotta figure there is an injury.

Bum was placed on the 60 to make room for him on the 40. Gotta figure that means either a DL assignment for one of the bully arms or Osich or Law will be sent down. Why transfer Bum to the 60 if there just be a DFA tomorrow?

Here's to him suddenly figuring it out amongst a bunch of pitchers who've lost it.

What is it about opposing pitchers and backup catchers that hurt us every game?

When will this team get no-hit? I am actually rooting for one at this point.

Looking at the Brewers' roster and they seem to be the bizarro Giants. Every unlikely candidate is producing for them at the moment.
* Sign a guy (Eric Thames) who couldn't stick in the big leagues but produces in Japan. Hope he does well - so far, so good.
* Pick up a player that got designated for assignment by another team (Jesus Aguilar) and watch him surprise.
* Trade a backup catcher and for another team's 3rd string (Jett Bandy) and watch him do well in a platoon with a minor league vet (Manny Pina).
* Pick up a former prospect not getting time with his original org and see him improve in his 2nd season (Domingo Santana and Chase Anderson).
* Acquire a middle infielder who was so bad that the A's discarded him! Then see him thrive and insert him as your leadoff hitter (Eric Sogard).
* Trade your top relief pitcher to the Red Sox to pick up the guy who supplanted Pablo Sandoval, only to get supplanted himself. See him do well in a new environment (Travis Shaw).
* Try the bargain bin to fill the closer role but have a guy (Corey Knebel) ready to step in and do well when the bargain bin doesn't work (Neftali Feliz).

There's more but it seems while everything that can go wrong with the Giants is going wrong and yet everything is, mostly, going right for the Brewers. Probably why no one expects them to even make the playoffs.

It must tough to be a Giants rookie hitter this year. Hard to get your feet under you when you are facing a guy with no-hitter stuff EVERY NIGHT.

How is a kid supposed to gain confidence in that situation?

It's just our turn to be the team everyone thought would be competitive and instead sucks. It happens.

And it's not all Whiteside's fault this time. Didn't we have an ok record when Bum went down? I blame him for a lot of this.
