IIRC, Carlos Correa was a shock first pick when Houston took him. Turned out that had a clue...The "fun" part of the draft is that the team could have everything right and still draft wrong. How many teams wished they hadn't skipped over Buster Posey or Mike Trout? The only thing that would have really bothered me is if the Giants drafted someone merely to save money, thereby skipping more talented players. Of course, 5 years down the road, if the that less talented player turned out to be the more talented player, the Giants could have been considered geniuses for skipping other players for him.
