Knew it was coming but I sincerely don't agree with the honor the franchise is giving him. It was pretty obvious when nobody has worn no. 4 since he left the first time.

Absolute sham. How this man continues to spray his greedy stank on the franchise is beyond me.

He burned the Kings a few times, you'd think that would have been enough to say no.

Time to update the banner again!

Nah. The banner is decided by the people and it looks to me like the people are saying ,,|,,(-,-),,|,, getting his jersey retired.

I'll happily update the banner for any other reason you guys may want though.

I'd almost give him a pass on the first time he left in the trade with Colorado although I thought taking the C off his jersey was a little overly dramatic and completely unnecessary. The Kings decided to trade him instead of paying him what he wanted and deserved actually. But to leave as a free agent to go to San Jose and retire from there burned his bridges with me. If he wanted no 4 in the rafters he should have stayed and retired as a King.

The thing that upset me about him going to SJ is the Sharks offered a pick to get him before the trade deadline and he refused to wave his NTC. Then he goes to the Sharks in the off season and the Kings got nothing.

Ugh... Look at the other players that had their numbers retired. No way he belongs in that group.

The second part of that is Blake was asked to hold on a moment after the 2 year/$12 million deal expired. Dumbo was shuffling numbers and he said Blake was in the plans, but he had to do some things first. I think within the first 24 hours of free agency, he signs the deal with SJ.

The Kings offered him $3.5 million, which I think was more than fair considering how useless he was the second time here, but he chased the money yet again to SJ.

This guy deserves to have his jersey shit on at center ice and lit on fire, not hung up in the rafters. He is a greedy person and delivered nothing in LA but here's management, jerking off to # 4.

PLEASE do not update the banner by putting Blake on it. It would ruin a classic piece of work by you during our finest hour.

While I do not agree with Blake either being in Kings management or in the rafters I can tell Kings fans that one of the biggest (and stupidest) moves by the Blackhawks when they sucked before Old Man Bill Wirtz died was alienating almost all Hawks former players, especially the greats.

The Hawks ascension followed the Old Man's death in part because he reconciled and brought back their legends, as well as spending more on management infrastructure and better on- and off-ice hockey decisions. No coincidence.

All great franchises (Hawks, Wings, Yankees, Dodgers in old days, Packers, etc) make efforts to get along and incorporate their greats after retirement. And unfortunately Blake is the all-time Kings defenseman in many categories (or, unfortunately he was such a dickwad in significant ways off the ice).

So I think the Kings with Blake are trying to build a legacy the way all the great franchises do.

(yeah, I know, I'm holding my nose as I write this)

Yeah, well start with someone else. Blake is an ass clown.

This got me thinking, everyone here a) knows my stance on Brown and his on ice play and b) thinks the Kings could have done better with that 13th slot in 2003. No secret, no surprise.

However, I will say Brown has done everything that was asked of from him as a captain - he led by example with his play (at times during this tenure) but more importantly delivered the goods not once, but twice. He also is entrenched in the community but the biggest thing to me is that he has never once bitched about his contract the way Blake did a few times over - in 1998 and then again in 2001, holding out in 1998 and then forcing a trade in 2001. The Kings always ensured he was the highest paid defender in the league until his next contract until 1998.

At some point in time that #23 will be retired, and deservedly so. Just my .02 while we're on the subject.
