Anyone catch how nervous the Niners kicker looked right before the Niners scored the game winning TD? He had his eyes closed and was taking deep breaths. Usually, those sideline shots of kickers just show a guy practicing kicks into the net.

Let's be honest, though. Kicking isn't the number one reason the Bears aren't scoring enough.

I'm sure there could be reasons for this other than the kickers suck. I'm not saying any of these are true, but...
maybe the reduced practice time allowed means team work less on the kicking game..
maybe the XP being moved back has caused more XPs being missed which may cause some confidence issues...
maybe the move to the guys with the huge legs, IE ability to kick it from 60+, has reduced some of the accuracy from closer range...
maybe having those "big legs" give coaches more confidence in trotting them out for a try from 50+ when they shouldn't..
maybe the kickers are "over-kicking" the ball on those mid range attempts..
maybe some of all of the above, or none and they're just not as good as they've been recently.

I do know that kicking accuracy is way better than it was in the day of the straight on guys, and probably the 70's and 80's too...but I haven't checked those stats and am too lazy to do it

I was thinking it tied into the longer extra point as well. The kicker mind seems to be a fragile one anyway so the extra strain the longer extra point causes could be something. Im suprised more teams dont go for 2 anyway. Feels like we could be shifting in that direction though.

A lot of this is on the holders as well. Teams sometimes change punters, not thinking what that does to the place-kicking game. When the Bills were having a competition at punter during the preseason, their place kicking was all over the place.

That's why you sposed-ta use the backup QB

It seems like coaches are using more analytics in their decisions now and that is leading to not kicking as many field goals as well. Maybe if you don't kick as often, you're not as familiar and the percentage made goes down. But like the other guy in this thread, I too am too lazy to look it up.
