Most everybody knows that it takes six wins to become bowl eligible in the FBS, except under the following circumstances:

a) a team that plays 13 regular season games must win 7 games to qualify;
b) a team that plays two FCS teams can only count one win over an FCS team to qualify, so either that team needs to win 7 games, or lose to one of the FCS teams & still win at least 6 games (which is kind of weird);
c) in rare cases when not enough teams become bowl eligible under the normal rules, the NCAA will allow 5-win teams to play in a bowl game, but those teams only qualify under certain academic metrics.

So, simple bowl eligibility isn't that big of a deal. However, becoming bowl attractive is a big deal. Teams with 8 or more wins over a 12-game schedule are much more attractive to bowl games than teams with only 6 or 7 wins.

Below, I will list the Bowl Attractive teams by conference; followed by total Bowl Eligible teams by conference (the second totals will infer the inclusion of the BA teams, but won't list them a second time).

Bowl Attractive teams are those who have fans that travel well and spend money while they are there. 6 wins or 11 wins, Nebraska would be a Bowl Attractive team. Same for Michigan, Wisconsin and a bunch of others. Stanford is not Bowl Attractive even if they won 11 games.

The Mommyship owns the overwhelming majority of the bowls now. Too many exist. It cheapens the whole meaning of it. Moneygrab.

They may be attractive from a monetary standpoint, but not to a great deal of viewers who want to see good teams matched up in bowl games.

I can testify to Wisconsin. They came to the Sun Bowl in '00 or '01. There were a lot of them and they knew how to drink beer, grill brats and have a damn good time fo sho! Friend of mine in EP was a former cheese head and took me with him to some of their get togethers.

Only us CFB die hards want to see good teams/good games regardless of brand name. The casual fan is only interested in name recognition teams...even if they are shitty. JMO.

This. Bowls will obviously factor in number of wins and conference standings, but the # they get from each conference is the picking order, not the number from the conference standings. They’re factoring in way more, like fan base, markets, and who will be willing to travel to the game, than just records and standings.

Yep. The TV money is contractual before the game. It's the people they can put in the seats and in their local stores and hotels.

It’s ridiculous 3 win teams don’t make bowl games.

I don't ever see the NCAA rejecting a new Bowl application.
They aren't going to interfere in how the Universities make money.

I'll bet we have 65 Bowls pretty soon.

And why not, if they all can make money.
All of these guys work hard.

Just think how monumental it will be, when we have 2 teams with 1-11 records, squaring off in the WTF Bowl.

Depending on really your definition of bowl attraction really is. Excluding the B1G the Pac 12 alumni spending money on any bowl town is more attentive than every other conference’s team combined but it’s not as attractive. Everyone wants Alabama in a high profiled bowl, but no one would trust an Alabama grad to landscape their yard.

My Broncos have 7 wins now. Definitely haven't locked down a Bowl invite yet.

It's like they know none of us are gonna go watch en sech.
