That time of year again. What's your team look like if you could pick them all? Remember, starters are 2 back court players, 3 front court players. Reserves are 2 back court, 3 front court, 2 wild card. And even though the teams are school yard pick, the player pool is still broken up into conferences.

My teams

West:
Starters: Steph Curry, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Nikola Jokic
Reserves: Damien Lillard, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis, DeMar Derozan,
Karl Anthony Towns

The West, like usual, is tough with lots of worthy players sitting out. I would have liked to have gotten CJ McCollum and Donovan Mitchell on there but there's no room. Same for perennial just left out Mike Conley. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all star talents but not having all star years imo, especially Green. You could make a case for Klay this year but I'm using his shooting struggles to leave him off this year. You could convince me to swap Derozan for Aldridge as both are having good years. Either way, I think at least one Spur should be there.

East:
Starters: Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid
Reserves: Ben Simmons, Bradley Beal, Khris Middleton, Blake Griffin, Nikola Vucevic, Victor Oladipo,
Kemba Walker

The rule having a set number of front/back court players really sucks for this conference imo because most of the worthy guys are listed as guards. I was struggling to find a real stand out front court guy for my last spot. Like I wish I could list guys like Butler or Simmons as front court players to sneak some more guards in. Simmons is a PG so sure but Butler should be allowed to be listed as front court player considering he's often at the 3 when the Sixers are playing a PG and Redick. I wanted to do that because I really think the Nets deserve an all star this year. A few weeks ago, I was leaning Spencer Dinwiddie but now, I'm leaning D'Angelo Russell. Their numbers were similar when I was leaning Dinwiddie a few weeks back but since then, Russell has beasted and separated himself. But since I needed a front court spot, I picked Middleton over Tatum. Both are borderish guys and I'd personally rather have Walker and Russell over them or Josh Richardson, another guard that I can't fit on because of the front court requirement. Took a long look at John Collins and Andre Drummond too but didn't think Atlanta was good enough to justify an all star despite Collins being a bright spot for them and Detroit isn't good enough for two all stars. What's likely gonna happen is Dwyane Wade is gonna get a "farewell" all star spot so one of those spots is gonna be taken (probably Middleton's).

Solid post. Can't really argue with it. Sentimentally I would put Klay in but can't really argue for kicking out anyone on your list.

He won't make it due to the popularity of Rose and Doncic, but no Tobias Harris even in your honorable mention? C'mon now.

Need to have either Siakam or Lowry on the team.

The NBA's best team deserves at least 2 players on the all star team

Bucks have fewer losses. I personally wouldn't raise an eyebrow if both teams ended up with only 1. Stuff happens. I don't think Lowry ought to be in the conversation even with Wall out of the picture.

He's got a solid case but there's a few others as well. I just left him out of the post because I didn't feel like typing out reasonings for each one I left off. It's one of those deals where the West is just really tough. Sorta frustrating again because I struggled to find another front court spot for the East but there's enough guys out West that could field that spot if there wasn't conference requirements

Siakam has a decent case for one of those front court spots. I left Lowry off because his numbers are down a bit this year. His shooting numbers are down but his assists are up though. Still, there's a lot of good guards in the East and I'm trying to spread it out as much as possible. You could convince me to put Lowry in over Simmons if you want to say both Raptors and Sixers should have 2 all stars apiece instead of Philly getting 3 and Toronto getting 1.

I agree
Id rather Lowry have the time off to be honest.
I do hope Siakam gets a hard look though. He has been fantastic

Harris is having a nice season.

But KAT is a better player with better numbers.

Rose and Wade being starters is a joke. I get Doncic, but over AD and George?

Hell to the no.

I hate fan vote.

They've at least made it to where it only counts for 50%.

I think the Warriors are bumming people out. Between them now locked in and the Patriots going to another freaking Super Bowl, most sports fans are miffed. And I totally get it.

My All-Stars. Of the Top of my head and being positionally responsible.

West

PG- Curry - Having a great season. Even with missed time he's been amazing
SG - Harden - I know he runs point but that is more of a symbolic gesture to the rest of the team.
SF- Durant - Lebron could go here as well but he's missed a lot of time
PF - AD - No question really
C - Jokic - Arguably the MVP of the league

East

PG - Ben Simmons - Consistently really good game in and game out. His shooting may need to improve but he also doesn't hurt team with bad shots. Excellent defender. Leads the league in assists for 3 pointers
SG - Bradley Beal - Really stepped up his game since Wall went down.
SF - Kawhi - Having another great year
PF - Giannis - MVP so far
C - Embiid - Best big man in basketball.

Ben won't, and shouldn't, get the nod over Kyrie as a starter.

But, he should be a reserve this year.

Kemba will get a look.

But, Ben should get the nod if it comes down to the two of them.

Olidipo, maybe even Russell will get looks as well.

Not sure what will happen with Wade.

I realize that Kyrie will get the nod over Ben. And I wouldn't be bothered by him getting the nod over hin. But I could absolutely make an argument that he has been more impactful for the Sixers than Kyrie has been for the Celtics.

I don't think it will matter because the All-Star team groups all guards together so I would expected Kyrie and Ben to be the starters. Beal, Kemba and Lowry could possibly supplant one of them though.
