Understand. One thing to note on Rivers - yes he has talent & has had great games. However - like Cousins (especially in his early stages) - Rivers has made a lot of key mistakes in his career. I believe that he leads the NFL in all time pick sixes. Not that big of a deal & that is why people need to back off the whole take about Cousins not being perfect and falling short at times - it happens - even sometimes with the very good QBs. If we have to suffer through McCoy for an entire season I think that we will learn to appreciate him.

For sure. I've never been critical of Kirk for play in "key moments" more than I have been for his play in mundane moments.

So im not a numbers guy or even how most of this stuff works,,, not gonna pretend I am... don't really care to know to be quite honest... got enough going on in my life to keep up with every aspect of the NFL and its operations...I'm a go on a fly, gut feelings, common sense and logic kinda guy when assessing a situation... so having said that, one of you guys please explain something... Did Kirk sign on his tag? if so, can he refuse any or all trades that the skins may come up with? Or does he even have anything to sign regarding a tag. Why couldn't the skins, (hypothetically) if they wanted too, trade him to Cleveland just in spite for not wanting to play here... for a bag of damn chips. Hows this tag protecting us this year regarding him playing here at least for one more year.

He has not signed his contract. He is holding out to see if he can pressure the team to trade him. Its not much of a threat. He isn't going to sit out the season. No, he cannot refuse a trade. But he doesn't have to negotiate with the new team on a long term deal, which any trade partner would have to have in trade for him. No one is going to trade for him and let him play under a $24M guaranteed one year deal. Only we would do that.

Thanks. It seems to me that he will sign his tag but won't sign any long term deal no matter what the numbers. Thanks to the Redskins and the way they dicked him around he would rather lose millions than to play here after this year. Will hate to see him go. He was the closes thing to sanity that we've had around here in a long time. Effin Skins.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Kirk Cousins is expected to sign his franchise tender soon.

According to Rapoport, Cousins is a "good soldier" and knows he's "likely not going anywhere." ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Thursday that Cousins asked owner Dan Snyder for a trade but was told "not to get his hopes up." It's still likely Cousins would prefer to play elsewhere but for now, he's content to let his contract run out and test the market in 2018. Cousins is believed to be eyeing a reunion with former Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.

For those of you who didn't, couldn't, or wouldn't get my comparison of a certain TYPE of player with Kirk Cousins it appears that someone in San Francisco has moved in that direction......

the Redskins would be highly unlikely to use the franchise tag again in 2018 as it would come with a 44% raise over his 2017 salary, meaning they would have to pay Cousins a $34.5 million salary. Instead, the Redskins could use the transition tag. That comes with a 20% raise and would bump his salary to $28.8 million.

The down side to the transition tag is that Cousins would be free to negotiate a long-term deal with other teams, with the Redskins having the right to match any offer. However, unlike the non-exclusive franchise tag, if the transition tag is used and the Redskins decide not to match another team's offer, Washington would not receive any compensation (a team using the non-exclusive franchise tag would be compensated two first-round draft picks).

If the Redskins do use the transition tag next season and do not sign Cousins to a long-term contract, he would end up making $72.7 million over three seasons (2016-18).

For comparison, Andrew Luck is expected to make $75.0 million in the first three years of his five-year, $123 million contract, which would be the richest three-year stretch in NFL history. Meanwhile, Tom Brady is set to make $44.8 million during the same 2016-18 stretch, and that includes a $28 million signing bonus on his last extension.

If that bullet item about Snyder not wanting to give Cousins to Kyle Shanahan is true that is very disconcerting. This is a freaking business & an owner of all people needs to park their freaking emotions at the door. How petty.

This is why I was so excited with the hire of SM a few years ago. It was not so much just about SM but rather Snyder giving up control of these type of decisions. This in turn would minimize a lot of this nonsense. Snyder just comes off as Richey Rich playing with his toy and pouting when he doesn't get his way. Sad.
