The Best Craft Beers

So i do that Untapped app on my phone and I had to rethink my rating scale. Too many beers were falling around the 4 star range and that felt unacceptable. I like beers that are redrinkable, so I needed to start factoring that in.

The IPAs at the top of this list are like that. Not difficult to find and if I saw them on tap, I would likely order them

The Plinys are at the top of the list. Heady Topper too. But hard to come by.

I'll rank the top 10 more available IPAs. And not the seasonals.

1) Fat Head's Head Hunter
2) Cigar City Jai Alai
3) Ithaca Flower Power
4) Half Acre Daisy Cutter (Just a pale ale but amazing, and I don't remember the name of their brand new IPA)
5) Firestone Walker Double Jack
6) Alpine Duet
7) Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin
8) Victory Dirtwolf (IIPA)
9) Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin
10) Uinta Hop Nosh

Super subjective, but Yuengling being over Heady Topper on this list is a traveshamockery.

No Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA? Excellent beer. I just had a chance at trying the 120 minute IPA last month. Also excellent but probably not worth the expense plus trouble of finding it.

I didn't think Yuengling even qualified as a craft brewer?
I think they are, technically. The association keeps changing the rules so Yuengling and Sam Adams get to keep calling themselves craft brewers.

Huh, we can use the Useful rating in this forum...

I read a while back that Sam Adams has less than half a percent of the US market, and I thought they were pretty huge. Shows how much of a lockdown the Big 3 have had on the market for so long

How is there not a single beer from Ommegang on the list? They have at least 2 or 3 beers that are really, really good.

I used to like their stuff but I haven't bought any in a while. Plus, I know my tastes have changed quite a bit over the last decade so I'm not sure I'll still like it

I started my craft beer life with Dogfishhead. Vacation in Rehoboth during the summers since my birth. I am pretty much over all their distributed stuff. The 90 is pretty malty too. If you ever get a chance at the 75 minute I recommend it highly.

The 120 is boozy as hell, but it makes for a great start to a night down in Dewey Beach!

Is the 75 minute seasonal / limited distribution? I don't think I've ever seen it.

I've only seen it at their brewpubs. It's a blend of 90 and 60. Don't know if they've ever bottled it for distribution.

Yuengling produces about 2.8 million barrels annually, operating two Pennsylvania facilities and a brewery in Tampa, Florida.

Sam Adams cranks out over 4 millions barrels per year.

Craft beer my butt.

They don't bottle it that I know of. But they have it at the brewpub sometimes.

I agree. When you are in the millions of barrels per year range, it ceases to be craft IMHO.

Not particularly a great list of beer or breweries. If you want to see what's great out there, try sites like Beeradvocate or ratebeer. Also, beer is very subjective, for instance I hate IPA's.

The only 7 I've had on that list:

Old Rasputan Imperial Stout: A
Tank 7 Farmhouse: A-
Sam Adams Boston Lager: B+
Sam Adams Octoberfest: B+
Fat Tire: B+
Left Hand Milk Stout: B
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale: B-

Not a terrible list. I usually just drink Missouri beers and they only had 2 in the top 160 or so that I recognized so...eh..
