IN most cases, if your boss walks in and says... what are our options... he isnt asking for fairytales that IF they work will make things better... but in most cases have little chance of actually working. If we are going to replace Kirk, and its going to lead to what will likely be a coach firing and a continued search for the "IT" QB... forgive me if i think thats more about some people disliking Kirk because he displaced he who shall not be named. More than any realistic hope that the team as a whole will improve by continually playing the we need a QB game. :thumb:

This thread was more than meets the eye. I usually respect everyone's opinion.
The F.O. and Local media certainly haven't helped us have a more upbeat off-season.
What I will say is if I had to replace Kirk, AJ actually was a good suggestion(it just so happened to be Sty)
I suggested Tyrod, Jimmy G and Foles...But AJ actually already knows the system, is younger than Kirk and will cost us nothing to acquire and sign. He has also looked competent when thrown into the fire.
Now as far as saying he is an improvement to Kirk, that is BOLD

Here's the thing about that, If the boss asks, he/she/it does so for a reason. Unlike, it appears, here, that boss values your input and likely trusts your ideas or they wouldn't ask. The real shame is that the odds of firing Kirk Gruden and anyone else are just as great because there are no guarantees in the NFL. Kirk could have peaked already, we just don't know. Yes, he likely to continue to do the same as he has, but the fun in these threads and this site comes from not KNOWING, doesn't it?

Even if true, and I can't express how highly doubtful I see that being true about Snap Crackle, Pop #10 being the reason why some MAY dislike Cousins, It has been matched by the fear that appears to have a firm grip on those too afraid to even entertain the thought of going forward without him (Kirk). The funny part is, almost every thread relating to the subject shows how tightly held that fear actually is.

If Kirk Cousins prices himself out of reasonableness.......(resp.) NO, It's gotta be Kirk!
If the team chooses to go another route.......................(resp>) NO, It's gotta be Kirk!
If Kirk hates it here and wants out...............................(resp.) NO, it's gotta be Kirk!
What are reasonable alternatives?................................(resp.) NO, it's gotta be Kirk!

On and on it goes, thread after thread, because......well......Hell, it's gotta be Kirk!
I remember charges that surrounded that other guy by some saying that there will be fans/ followers of this team in mutiny if he was not here, well that didn't happen, and this is Washington, so we must prepare ourselves for this in rthe unlikely event that it doesn't happen...............Well, damn, turns out it didn't have to be Kirk!

Agree, but I can afford to be Bold, it's not my money, I don't own the team or part of it yet, and I'm too damn old to spend a lot of my emotional capital on entertainment or entertainers that have a short shelf life. Besides all of that I happen to believe it to be true!

As much money fans spend on tickets, travel, parking spaces, hotels, food, drinks and team gear we should have a huge say if it weren't for the fans there would be no money to pay players

OK first off, I have decided that Sty would throw out Rosie Odonell as some one who MIGHT make this team better as apposed to Cousins.

Now that we got that out of the way. The point isnt to find some one who MIGHT be able to keep us where we are and possibly could make us better.

If we are seriously going to walk away from the est QB we have had in town in 15 or more years, the guy we install has to be hands down better. Not maybe better. NOt could possibly become better. He better be 100% barring injury or kidnapping by aliens Better than Cousins is NOW.

Otherwise its a crap shoot that stands just as good a chance of setting us back, and likely more of a chance of setting us back.

So yea Sty... until you come up with a better than maybe option who is actually available... it SHOULD be Kirk. A Reasonable Alternative SHOULD be some one who you KNOW will make the team better, not some one you HOPE can atleast keep us at the level where we are right now, and MIGHT be better if we get really lucky.

I did and his name is A.J McCarron, whether you want to believe it or not that's your option. To me he is ALREADY a better fit here than Cousins, period end of sentence!! Turns out....I'm BOLD:D, Don't believe me? Now watch 'em rise up out of their seats in protest, or worse attack the messenger!

And my opinion is... if McCarron was that good, his name and not Garapallo would be the one every one wonder about trading for.

Sure would if Rosie O'Donnell could sling it around the park with pin point accuracy, or was a better fit for this team than Kirk!

If anyone would be afraid to break the news to Kirk I would take on that job as well.

"Uh-ra look here Kirk, ya been a pretty good guy for us up to this point, but we're going with Humpty over here for a minute, but you know what they say, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!"

Actually, that's exactly the point isn't it? And at a significantly cheaper salary for the next couple years.

If we are seriously going to walk away from the est QB we have had in town in 15 or more years, the guy we install has to be hands down better. Not maybe better. NOt could possibly become better. He better be 100% barring injury or kidnapping by aliens Better than Cousins is NOW.

So better and cheaper. Should his farts smell like new car smell or wintergreen freshness? Does he save a kitten in a tree that was on fire. Or save a puppy with mouth to mouth who almost drowns in a flash flood?

Otherwise its a crap shoot that stands just as good a chance of setting us back, and likely more of a chance of setting us back.

Its all a crap-shoot anyway.

So the goalposts are being moved again concerning this question. Some of you guys in the "The Skins gotta keep Kirk Cousions even if he demands 30 mill per." club. need to stop. You don't want reasonable alternatives. You want guarantees that are both silly and impossible to ensure.

As far as IM concerned, the goal post has never been moved. The point is to improve on what success we have had over the past two years.

If the goal is, we dont want to pay Kirk... you can pull any name out of ones ass and it will likely suffice.

Since the goal should be, what is the best route to improve the team, you cant say well this guy or that guy MIGHT be better. Because it also implies that this guy might NOT be better.

Part of the best route might involve not paying Cousins 20+ mill per and whoever replaces him has to take his lumps for a season.

ok i have asked about other options

lets start with what we have , colt mccoy qb , nice BU qb but couldnt hold the job in cleveland his career record as a starter is 8 and 17

Suds right now this guy cant lead a pro team , not saying he cant grow but he really isnt an viable option

now lets look at the draft , this class is very weak . watson looks like RG3 , trubinsky has one year as a starter , kizer has been erratic mahomes is unproven as well

now lets look at garrapolo pats want a 1st rounder for him and we would have to sign him long term . small sample size so its a risk and only 2 career starts but probably the best option

aj mccarron again this is a guy we need to trade for . what is the asking price ? he has started a mere 3 games so we still have to see how he reacts after the nfl has seen him cycle through once . this guy has been sitting behind andy dalton which many people believe is avg at best . yet the argument is he is better then a 2 time 4000 yd passer and we wont take a dip . i am not convinced he can take us to the playoffs year in and year out

matt mcgloin he has started 7 career games , he has 1 career win and we are supposed to but this guy can take us to the playoffs year in and year out ? another guy we would have to trade for

nick foles 20 - 16 career record , after his great season in a fluke offense the nfl got film on him and eventually he was benched , again another guy we would have to trade for . he is the poster child for what the above 3 qbs we would have to trade for could be

jay cutler 68 and 71 career record 33 years old a turnover machine that has had injury issue , good physical tools but lacking in other areas , this is a stop gap

tony romo if you just needed a qb to win a super bowl quickly he is an option he is 36 and he has been hurt for 2 years he has a price tag too and right now we would need to trade for him

ryan fitzpatrick 34 46 69 and 1 career record journeyman stopgap at best

geno smith would have to trade for career 12 18 record benched in favor for the above journeyman

tyrod taylor 14 -14 career record not sure he is better then KC but bills have soured on him in favor of cardale jones , again we would have to trade for him so what price ?

now my question is why is it insane to say the qb we have is pretty darn good and is in our best interest to resign this guy

No one said you were insane. I just rather have the draft picks b/c I don't feel KC is elite enough. We don't know the contract numbers yet so we really cant comment on this.

What is "elite enough"? He is elite, but just not enough? Please elaborate?
