I am fucking bored... I am thinking about picking up Cubase 6 for music production... I am almost thinking about maybe trying to pursue this as a possible career... I'd have to go back to school I am sure... Berklee offers an online course for Music Production using Cubase.

Not ProTools?

I have a friend who did it. I think it helps if you can find a niche market to cater to and be known in. As an alternative, you don't have to go back to school to do this if you practice with some trial and error. The nice thing is it's never been easier/cheaper to get a studio up and running. The downside is, artists can do it themselves more often and don't need you as much.

No, I know. But I mean land a gig in like Boston/New York/LA. I am going to need a degree in Music Production to really have a shot at landing a decent gig somewhere. I am not looking to just record peoples music on my own... That would be a pain to build from the ground up. But the plus side is I would be able to do that in my spare time... However I would like to really make a career out of the music business.

And yes, after doing research Pro Tools would be the way to go. I am looking at Berklee Online classes, and everything is Pro Tools for the most part, at least that is the base. Ableton Live is another big one.

ProTools is the gold standard. And even better you can buy a rig pretty cheap. While you may need to spend a few thousand to get some mics, cables, and studio speakers if you were setting up your own studio, you can get a Mbox, hook it up to a computer, use headphones, and actually practice/experiment on your own for less than $500.

But yeah, I can understand wanting to get a gig somewhere. Probably a good way to learn from someone as well.

I think I should just buy Pro Tools, fuck around with it... Maybe take a Specialty Certificate Course online from Berklee in Music Production, and just see how I take to it. If I have no luck finding a gig somewhere, I can always just do it for fun, because music will always be a part of my life. The specialty course is only 9 credits, like 3800 bucks. The Master course is like 16k and 36 credits.

I dunno, I'm gonnatake the rest of the summer to really think about it.

All in all, I am almost 25, and I am working in a warehouse... I need to pick a career and start doing some networking/schooling.

You can buy an Mbox for like 500 and if you don't like it, resell it on Ebay for liek 300-350. Pretty low risk endeavor. It's really easy to use. Either way, cool you are looking into the possibilities. It would be a pretty cool career.

I just realized I think I have one sitting at home somewhere! Lol. Though I'm betting the software is a little old now.

Yea, I can pick up an Mbox + Pro Tools for 900 bucks... I would have no reason to sell it though, because I would definitely use it regardless if I make music production a career. I will always be recording and creating my own music... I guess I can put the schooling on hold and just purchase that package first. That course would only take 36 weeks to finish.

Nice! That's pretty quick.

I didn't mean you'd WANT to sell it, but just meant it's a limited risk if you change your mind or decide another career path. Then it only ends up costing you a couple hundred bucks in the end.

Good luck with it though.
