So sounding like a case of not if its going to happen, but for how much and how it will be structured. Its ok take a deep breath everyone. We should have all figured this was going to be a mind numbing contract.

I told you KC would be greedy. 80M is way over the top. I guess they are using Luck's contact as a base.

Remind me how thats being greedy. He is asking for $16M a year in guaranteed money over a 5 year contract. You have no idea what the entire structure of the deal, the cap numbers or even the length of the deal will be.

80/5=16 And its actually LESS than what Luck got in guaranteed money after all the guarantee escalators kick in.

I know Luck got 87. Sorry, we have no out in the contract with that kind of guarneeted money. If he flops in year 2 we are stuck with him.

If this is accurate there are a number of things at play here. For starters this definitely sounds like Snyder is on board w/ keeping Cousins even for a huge amt. I really don't think that SM can do much to interfere w/ this. Also - Cousins is gambling on himself again. If talks really broke down then it appears as if he is fine playing on the tag & if his play regressed he would risk losing future money (although at worst he would be $24M richer).

Who knows if they ultimately settle on this amt - if they - they do. I still wouldn't trade Cousins. BTW - Dean - what would you do in this situation? Would you be like - oh let's settle for something that is a lot less. I likely would not. All part of the negotiation.

So what are you suggesting? Ditching him & start over in rebuilding? Will you be fine with watching a 6-10 team next season? It may not pan out that way, but that is a real possibility.

In that situation I am looking for trade partners if KC wont budge on his 80M number. If I can get insurance that the 49ers will give me a 1st and 3rd and a 3rd in 2018 draft he is as good as gone. Use the extra money and draft picks to make this team better on both sides of the ball. This is a massive overpay to a guy who hasn't won anything. At least Luck had some playoff success. Kc's success is all speculation. Sorry I don't call 2016 a success for him b/c of his stats, a lot was in garbage time.

Let the 49ers overpay for him. Im thinking the SM would want the picks and Synder wants to overpay. Lets see who has control of this team now.

Wrong... even Lucks deal had a third year out option in which case the Colts would have only paid him about half that guaranteed money.

I thought Luck get his 87 successful or not. Isnt that what guaranteed means?

Luck got $87M for career ending injury only.

$47M was fully Guaranteed,

Another $25M becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster the 5th day of the 2017 league year ( March 12th)

The Colts could cut him right now, and the total they would have given him in guaranteed money and salary would be $44M. Granted that would be very expensive to cut him going into year two of his deal. But in the grand scheme of things... if Luck had totally tanked they could cut him and the only major change would be they drop from $50M in cap space to $40M in cap space.

What we pay these guys only has bearing on how it effects the cap. If the Colts could cut Luck and it doesnt put them over the cap, I think we will be fine on what ever deal we give Cousins.

I didn't know that. But even if you cut Luck in year 2 or year 3 of the deal he will get most of that money plus destroy the cap for the Colts. KC's deal will probably be worked the same way. This is crazy if you ask me.

Again I call BS. How is their cap destroyed if they could cut him right this moment and STILL have $40M in cap space.

If they cut him after this season.. guess what.. they would have $84M in cap space.

If for some reason they felt the ned to part with him before 2019,,, $133M

Oh yes they are so screwed against the cap because of that deal.

And none of this takes into account that they have $50M in caps space now even WITH his contract.

My hedged bet is, Kirk comes in with a cap number of $16M or less this year on a long term deal and his cap number wont see north of $20M until year three of the deal.

Hell no pass on that contract we still have other players to re-sign and free agents we need to go after badly because the draft is not fixing all the problems we have

but yeah lets play colt , he gets injured again and we have nate taking snaps until we go 4-12

You aint gotz shit if you aint gotz no QB.. go ask Cowpie nation if that aint true. Eighty million aint nothing in todays NFL. Bottom rung journey men get 60 large these days. Kirk is a good QB and he has improved each year he's been here. Why take a chance on a FA retread or God forbid McCoy, Suds or even rookie. They finally have a QB where you don't have to hold your breath each time he drops back. Pay the man what you NOW owe him. You screwed up last two opportunities you had to sign him... Eat your crow already and show him the money.
