Whats really sad is the age of the players that are dying. How successful they where at such young ages, their families must be devastated immensely. RIP JF as well.

A 2015 study by the World Health Organization found that the Dominican Republic had the highest traffic accident death rate in the Americas, with a rate of 29.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Moore said the Royals constantly try to remind their players and staff of the potential hazards of driving in the Dominican Republic.

"Every day, Moore said. "I'm intentional about it to the point where maybe it goes in one ear and out the other. With Andy Marte this morning [and now this], this is something that unfortunately happens way too often in the Dominican Republic. Whether it's scouts, coaches or front office people, we feel extremely responsible as an organization to communicate effectively and challenge our players at every level of the organization about the importance of making great choices.''

Very sad. I know he was a polarizing figure, but I'd take his attitude and talent on my team any day. (Especially because my team is full of vanilla chumps on it's staff).

This is the 3rd time in less than 3 years that I can think of that a Dominican/Cuban kid with loads of talent and potential has died in a stupid, high-risk, vehicle accident.

I know American players can be just as stupid, but the last player I think that died in an accident was Nick Adenhart and he was a passenger and a drunk guy ran into him.

These guys need to realize that they are not invincible, they can't take risks. Drink, party, fuck any girl you want (because you can have any girl you want). But get your ass off the road when you're doing all of the above, because you are as mortal as any of us.

Well to be fair to Ventura, i haven't seen any details of the accident. I'm not even sure if another vehicle was involved

Can't say I've ever heard of him until just now, but that is sad news.

He had a highly publicized run-in with Manny Machado this season. Maybe you've heard of him.

mostly started by Machado, who pretty much got away with inciting a brawl

Gotta kind of agree with you here. Yordana is a pretty big name, and if you don't follow the Royals much you'd likely know him from some of his fights/banters considering they always make MLB headlines lol.

All started by the batter

Machado talking shit
Adam Eaton talking shit

Talk shit - get plunked.

Fuck them both

RIP.

People want to bring up drugs and/or alcohol, but when does the blame start to fall on the infrastructure of the DR? I have no clue what their roads are like, but I'm willing to guess safety of the drivers wasn't as paramount as getting from point a to point b when they designed their road systems. This would result in a lot of sharp turns, blind corners, etc.

Maybe some of these teams who throw money at these kids and build academies down there could actually help the country and improve their infrastructure a little bit.

Or maybe a $200M guy like Ortiz could get off his fat ass and do something .

Red Sox fan.

99% of them only pay attention to the Red Sox.

Hockey and football fan actually. Baseball is not a priority and neither is keeping track of the names of players throughout MLB.

Yordano Ventura played a huge role in the Royals winning a World Series and your dumbass hasn't heard of him because you live under a rock sheltered by your chickenshit brain.

Why don't you step outside sometime you phony baseball fan?
He didn't really play a huge role in the Royals winning a World Series. He did play a huge role in getting the 2014 World Series to a game 7 though.
