Pettine got interveiwed today

How about this guy pettine and also I heard no interest on petitine but boom we interveiwed him I guess skins fooled there reporters ..so what about him is he a 3-4 or 4-3 guy idk

OK.. did more research. Pettine might be a Norv Turner of DC's.

As in a guy who couldnt hack it as a head coach, but makes a pretty good DC.

Now mind you the same could be said for Bradley. But if i had my choice, IM going to go with the discipline guy over the rah rah buddy hire. But that could just be my predisposition.

Dude I know you got a man crush thing going for Bradley. And if it werent for the whole buddy hire aspect, I might be pulling for that outcome.

But two things.

1. It seems we are HIS fallback plan.
2. He sounds like another Joe Barry with a better resume. Players will love him as a good guy coach, but there have been questions of if he can actually bring a level of discipline that our defense needs.

I think he would be a very solid choice. Has run a defense and has run a team. Had a bunch of success with the Jets. Sure, Rex was there, but the Bills defense sucked this year, so I think he may have contributed to at least some of that success. He doesn't have the big name that a Wade Phillips, Gregg Williams, Bradley, or others, but I trust him much more than I would Guenther and is a clear upgrade over Barry.

Pettine, 50, spent five years as a defensive coordinator under Rex Ryan for both the Jets and Bills prior to getting a Head Coach gig with Cleveland. His defenses under Ryan consistently ranked in the top-10's. Pettine is known as a very direct and fiery person. Players respond well to his bark because he understands how to infuse discipline. This, in my opinion, is more up the alley of what the Redskins need in a defensive coordinator.

Of course, Pettine is a 3-4 guy, so Washington would remain in that scheme if he were to get hired. He would be the most legit 3-4 coach Washington has had since switching to the scheme in 2010. He's a guy who isn't afraid to blitz and send aggressive packages. I would personally approve of this hire.

I would have no problem with this hire. Great experience in the 3-4 under Rex Ryan. Plus has been a dcoordinator and head coach before which is a plus.

Yeah I read up on his philosophy. Lots of smoke and mirrors. Confusing pre-snap reads. so QB reads one thing but D does something else. I like the idea but when you see guys can't remember who is supposed to cover specific zones or are supposed to have one gap responsibility and instead fill another ... ummmm .... makes me nervous. Emphasis on versatile players. One guy can line up in any of 3 LB positions on consecutive plays, just one example. He likes to attack though and I like that.

Yeah, I'm liking a lot of what I'm reading regarding him, as well as seeing he has been well liked and respected by past players.

Like the fact there are no 'ties' in the buddy system to our FO as well.

The more I look at it, the more Im hoping we hire this guy or Wilkes. Which means we will likely hire Wade or Bradley.
