As I alluded to in another thread - my concern is can Barry develop the younger talent. Much more worried about this than the gameplans he uses for a given game. It is not as if the players are ready to go starting in their rookie year. They need to be properly coached along the way. We have seen that work well w/ the O line & Cousins.

On the flip side there might be some issues in this area with players such as Breeland and Smith but to be fair we have seen progress with players such as Murphy. I just want to see defensive players maximize their talent, and I am not sure if Barry & co are the rt coaches in this area. I am not saying that they are not - just not sure.

I hate Barry as much as the next guy, and I don't want to get sucked into defending him on this board. Lol. However, I have no idea how he managed to keep Zeke under 100 with Baker, Hood, RJF, Compton and Foster in our front 7. That's crazy to me.

To me this is consistent with what you see in many Redskins games. On some plays they will stuff the run & have a no gain, loss or short gain. Then on the very next play the back will make a relatively long gain. Hard to watch.

I understand that but when its crunch time in the 4th qtr they delivered on the final drive of the four games I mentioned. You have to look at it game by game not just state overall numbers. KC was NOT putting games away for us in the first half of the season. That point should be documented. Now he is putting up huge numbers but still not cashing in the redzone. You cant blame the defense when the offense has to settle for short FG's.

I most certainly can. The offenses job is to score points. Be that TD's or field goals. The defenses job is to STOP the other team from scoring points, if they cant prevent them from scoring a TD, at a minimum they SHOULD be able to hold the other team to a field goal. You want to proclaim the defense should get some sort of Kudos for actually doing their jobs in 4 out of 11 games?? Seriously??

Yes you win... hats off to the defense for sort of showing up in 36% of our games so far. Imagine what our record might be if the defense DIDNt give up an average of 24 points a game.

True but you can blame the defense for not stopping the opponents' running game. As I posted elsewhere they have yet to stop any team with a decent running game & this trend will likely continue for the remainder of this season.

True but you cant blame a defense for missing easy Fg's like Hopkins has missed.

Its well known that we don't have a talented defense. So what they are doing for what they got its amicable. cant blame the defense for Hopkins missing bunny Fg's either.

I don't care if you score 10 or 510, if you give your team the lead with 1:05 remaining and can't stop them it is on the D.

Side note to Barry. If Todd Bowles gets fired and becomes available, I jump all over that and bring him home to run our D.....with no hesitation.

You are kidding - right? This guy is the best kicker they have had in some time. So he misses some FGs in certain games. It is happening rt now w/ just about every team in the NFL. Unfortunately it is part of the maturation process. I certainly hope that you are not also blaming him for any misses in the Packers game since those conditions were brutal.

Kickers are going to miss at times - deal with it.

No I don't blame him for the Packers game. The cincy game winner and 41 yarder he missed in Dallas I do. I like Hopkins as our kicker. He can hit the long ones. He is called upon too many times b/c the offense can not score in the red zone. I hope this changes.

So you are really asserting that our offense is the real problem here?? I just want to be clear that this is the angle you are trying to work. The real problem isnt that our defense couldnt stop any one from gaining 100 yards on the ground. Its that the offense just doesnt score enough?

In the first half of the season our redzone woes made a huge difference. Of course our defense is a problem but we are not the Saints or Browns by any means.

Well when you have a defense that gives us 24+ points a game, and you think they are the reason why we are 6-4-1, what other rationale could Dean have? Next it will be the offense's fault that we can't stop anyone from running ripshod over the defense.

Shark, the defense has held opposing offenses to 20 or fewer in five games...24 or fewer in 6...and only twice all season have they allowed 30.

We all knew coming into this season, our defense would not be good because we haven't really put much capital into it. I venture to say, nobody expected our defense to be middle of the pack. They have been OK.

Don't excuse the offense. They have no business being 8th in scoring because they should be top 3.

I'm not one for defending Dean but I think he is saying they have done well enough with what is invested...except for him trying to single-handedly give them credit for 4 games...which is absurd.

I could agree with this statement, they have done as well as could be expected given the talent on that side of the ball. But then one really can't make the argument that the coaching is the issue, either. For shouldn't Barry be given a bit of a pass given such mediocre talent he has to work with? Dean and others want to see a more aggressive, blitzing scheme. Who doesn't. But if you don't have the horses to run that style, should the coach be criticized and fired, as some have proposed?

I say this not as a fan of Barry's, but looking at the situation realistically. I have no idea if Barry is a good coach, but I do know that there are major deficiencies he has to coach around.
