Not necessarily. Being a young player on a good defense could mean Bruton or Johnson were good, just not as good as Cam Chancelor. Or at least I thought this may be the case. Joke was on me.
I think that's what a lot of people thought, both inside the organization and outside. A lot of times, players look good it one scheme and with high level players around them, but flounder on other teams. Thats why going after high profile FAs can be risky and is usually a failed strategy to build a team. Use FA primarily to fill short term holes inexpensively until you can replace them with players you have drafted or have been developing on the practice squad. Occasionally you find a gem in FA, but usually not.

The Skins have 9 draft choices, including a fourth rounder from the jets, which will end up being a low third rounder. That's nice.

They will sign Cousins and Baker
They probably will resign Chris Thompson and either Garcon or Jackson. Personally, I'd rather they keep Garcon and develop a new speed threat (Ross maybe).
They will also probably resign Nsekhe. They might move him or Trent Williams inside.
Compton they can let go.
They may sign Vernon Davis to a rookie minimum deal.

That should take up a lot of their unused salary cap.
They SHOULD draft: DL, ILB, FS, SS, RB, OL.
Like the previous poster, I'd like to see them draft strength up the middle (DT, ILB, FS with range).
I'd also like to see them continue drafting Olinemen - we see what a difference a dominant Oline makes.
I'd like to see more pass rush drafted - even a situational guy would be nice.

I think they can accomplish a LOT of this, especially with nine draft picks.

i know you are right about KC and baker
we will keep CT and one or both of our starting wrs (most likely one and garcon would be my choice )
i like nseche in his current role (swing tackle ) he is 31 and he is a good player but williams is an all pro at LT , we keep shaun at OG but we could draft a OG in round 2 or 3
compton come down to price
davis wont sign for a rookie conract , i would give him something similar to his current contract

i like your draft ideas but we could have a sleeper in gallette as a pass rusher

I wish Gallette could be a sleeper, but I don't see how you count on him as anything other than gravy. The truth is that Preston Smith and Trent Murphy have both been ok, but neither has been awesome. Smith had one awesome game, and that's about it. Trent Murphy got a few nice stats at the beginning of the year, and not much since.

Honestly, would anybody be upset to see the same amount of competition for pass rushing OLB as their is for other spots on the roster: te, wr, ol? Probably not.

Not for nothing: but I wouldn't be upset if they went DL, OL in the first two rounds. The OL is pretty damn good, but with a DOMINANT OL, pretty much any rb could do well. Clearly the competition in the NFC East for the next few years is going to be the cowboys. The Skins need a beast at NT to occupy blockers, prevent Elliott from rushing up the middle or cutting back, and providing some pass rush. A beast combined with Baker would be pretty nasty.

Maybe Richardson from the Jets, though he'd be awfully pricy.

Strength up the middle would limit rbs, and play into our depth at cb: Norman, Breeland, Fuller (better next year most likely), etc.

thats why i put him as a sleeper , with 2 achilles injuries it will be hard to get back however if you have limited resources to get competition in at OLB maybe you roll the dice

this will sort itself out during the off season 9 draft picks is a good thing to have in your back pocket when you have a lot of our own FA's to resign

I would love to be able to rotate Galette with Smith next year and slide Murphy down to DE. I could live with Baker, Murphy, and a #1/FA at NT.

That's my guy Shark! I mentioned him in a previous post. Mock drafts fluctuate, so who knows, but I like his tape and it would be nice to solve the NT issue on a rookie contract.

If we can get a stud O-line in the 1st, and Johnson is there in the second and we pass on him.... I will be the guy getting arrested for kicking our GM in the Nuts at the Draft party. Just fair warning. :D

And thats what worries me. I think this kid if he keeps it up, will be the best pure NT in the draft. Sadly i think we might screw around and take another WR or something and wait til the 7th round to address he D-line.

well it may depend on what happens in FA but unless we go safety i think he would be the pick if he is there , seems like an SM guy

but i cant dissuade your fears because it could be justified

I just don't understand the love affair a few have with Junior Gallette.

it isnt a love affair , i know its a long shot , but we dont lose anything giving him the shot rather then spending a pick there

I think at this point Junior needs to stop trying to prove his worth in practice, stay healthy and do it on the field in games that matter. IM fine with signing him to an incentive heavy deal at this point. But he has made more for rehabbing the past two years than most of us will make in ten years. Time for him to get healthy, let his body build to the point where it can take the punishment, and show it on the game field instead of showing ass in practice and being useless come game time.
