This is what the BCS would like if still implemented. Obviously since we don't have a Harris Poll, I substituted in the AP poll in it's place. Here's the top 25:

1. Alabama - .999
2. Michigan - .935
3. Clemson - .929
4. Washington - .882
5. Ohio State - .808
6. Louisville - .786
7. Texas A&M - .773
8. Wisconsin - .701
9. Auburn - .589
10. Florida - .579
11. Nebraska - .572
12. Oklahoma - .464
13. Western Michigan - .380
14. West Virginia - .355
15. LSU - .350
16. Baylor - .340
17. Penn State - .291
18. Florida State - .288
19. Colorado - .279
20. Utah - .279
21. North Carolina - .247
22. Virginia Tech - .225
23. Boise State - .197
24. Oklahoma State - .159
25. Washington State - .156

According to what would be the old BCS Formula, there's a pretty clear separation between #4(Washington) and #5(Ohio State). And a significant drop from #8(Wisconsin) to #9(Auburn). One interesting thing I noticed while doing this is that Western Michigan is much more regarded in the computers(#10) than they are by the humans(AP Poll, Coaches Poll and CFP). The same 25 teams ranked in the CFP would be the same as what the BCS Formula would have spit out, just in a different order.

Do you think Texas A&M is in the right place here? What's your thoughts on how the playoff committee placed them?

so Alabama vs Michigan in the BCS championship game
Sugar would get first pick to replace Alabama so Texas A&M is the likely
Rose picks next to replace Michigan so Ohio State and Washington goes Automatic
Clemson is auto to Orange
Oklahoma would be auto to Fiesta
after that the order of selection was
  • A. The bowl played on the date nearest to the National Championship Game will pick first;
  • B. The bowl played on the date second-nearest to the National Championship Game will pick second;
  • C. The bowl hosting the game that is played in the time slot immediately after the Rose Bowl game will pick third.
the bowls are a bit different now as the Sugar has secured the spot after the Rose. but they are also closest to the NCG now
but lets assume they pick first
Sugar Texas A&M vs Louisville
Fiesta would get next pick and have to chose between Western Michigan and Navy being the highest ranking Non P6 as it was in the BCS and the assumed champ as they are highest ranked AAC team who still had an auto bid.
Fiesta would be Oklahoma vs Western Michigan because regionally closer than Navy
and Orange would then be Clemson vs Navy

recap
NCG Alabama vs Michigan
Rose Ohio State vs Washington
Sugar Texas A&M vs Louisville
Fiesta Oklahoma vs Western Michigan
Orange Clemson vs Navy

3 out of 5 solid 2 weak

However if using todays criteria for those BCS bowls and those BCS standings it would be
NCG Alabama vs Michigan
Rose Washington vs Ohio State
Sugar Texas A&M vs Oklahoma
Orange Clemson vs Texas A&M
Fiesta Louisville vs Western Michigan

How does Navy get to the Orange Bowl?
under the BCS the AAC was still an auto bid for their champion they just didn't have a tied in bowl. that's why UCF went to Fiesta against Baylor in 13/14 as the #15 team

and if we followed the old rule of no more than 2 teams from the same conference it would change to
Orange Clemson vs West Virginia or Western Michigan

Decent list. Idk why they got rid of the BCS entirely. There was no issue with it. They just needed to use the BCS and pick the top 4 teams from it instead. This committee is way too vague and just throws out a list and it is absolute. At least with the BCS we knew exactly what the formulas were for the comp rankings and exactly how each person voted and how close or far teams were apart.

And the BCS got it right nearly every time.

And the times when it "didnt", would have been completely solved with a 4 team playoff. I never once heard someone complain that the #5 team in the BCS deserved a shot at the title.

Well that's substantially better than the committee did lol. I'll still take the committee at year end
