I'll be on my way to the Giants at Packers game but will keep tabs on Lynch and the Broncos. That's for sure. Very interesting game. Peace.

I know a few here are as giddy as little school girls with this news. Hope things turn out well for Lynch and Broncos. Do not want to see posts if they lose and Lynch plays poorly. The excuses should be quite predictable I'm sure. Go Lynch and Broncos !

Lynch looked pretty good last week coming in against a defense that had never seen any film on him. I'm sure that the Falcons have been planning for both quarterbacks all week and will be ready for what they think they're going to get in Paxton.

Going in unexpectedly in a game is one thing but knowing all weekend that you're going to start could be another. I expect Lynch to show a few nerves and a bunch of rookie mistakes. I'm also confident that we'll get to see some flashes of his big play capability throughout the game. Once he settles into a rhythm, he should be fine. The coaching staff arguably will have a lot of running plays planned and some passes to build Lynch's confidence.

If Siemian's not 100%, then I like this move. Next week's game against a division opponent is huge and the Broncos might have two capable quarterbacks for that game. Unless Lynch goes crazy (crazy good), I still think we'll see Siemian next Thursday.

Anyway.....Go Broncos!

I guess I don't get this. Not sure how else to explain this. AT least for me yes I like Paxton and yes I still think he is the future of the Broncos at the QB position. That doesn't mean I hate Siemian, wish injury on Siemian, or have ever cheered against Siemian. I have said plenty of times that I have been down right impressed with his play so far this season and have even said that if he was 100% he should be the starter for this game as he has earned it and hasn't done anything in the games to have it taken away.

My issue for this game especially though was how healthy could he really be with a sprained A/C Joint? Again not sure if you have ever dealt with that injury before but depending on the severity another hit to that shoulder could actually have a lasting impact throughout the rest of his life. That was my major concern. We saw last year what happened when a QB not at 100% was out on the field when Manning suited up for the Chiefs game. He had maybe his worst game as a pro. So yes I would rather the coaches be cautious in this situation as I would rather have BOTH Siemian and Lynch healthy down the stretch instead of Siemian gone for the season and us leaning on Austin Davis to be our key back up at the position behind a rookie.

Again I don't think this has to be if you like Lynch then you hate Siemian. I'm hoping that because you like Siemian that you don't hate Lynch. I cheer for all Bronco players and I can respect the coaches enough to know they will make the best decision for the team not the fans.

Manning being washed up and done was the problem. The injury excuse for Manning again. :L If Manning was really injured versus the Chiefs then he shouldn't have played. Manning played in that game so no injury excuse if you play. He just plain sucked. Go Broncos!! Peace.

I think Kubiak learned a lot from that game. Manning was hurt. It was the first time in his entire time with the Broncos that he missed a Thursday practice. You can say he wasn't hurt but I would say medical records and doctor visits for him would argue against that. What I saw happen was a HOF QB who refused to sit for a week when he knew he was hurt. We saw a coach who went against his instincts in that one trusting the HOF player to overcome his injury. Because lets be honest most players right now that have started every game are not at 100%. Manning was not even at a functioning level at that point.

Also if you don't believe he was hurt please go and watch that game on his throws and especially his footwork. Compare that to games earlier in the year and when he came back for the playoffs. While he was washed up there was definitely a difference between Manning in other games other than against the Chiefs. His foot was bad and his footwork where most of his power was coming from late in his career was gone. You see a guy go from planting his feet well to trying to do it all arm and well we saw what happens when Manning tries to throw all arm.

Few things on this...

1) My work, my wife's work, and even our outside activities are very much geared towards communication. I am a pastor, coach, counselor, EMT, and so on. All of these involve communicating well in order to reach the best results. So yes I like to clarify myself on this board because I have seen too often what happens when two people do not understand what the other is trying to communicate. I've seen marriages destroyed all because of something that was said that the other took the wrong way. I have seen families go into panic attacks when an EMT does not communicate well to them as we are taking their dying family member out of the house. I have seen kids quit a sport all because another coach didn't understand the kid was speaking in a sarcastic tone. So yes I like to make sure I am clear on what I am trying to communicate especially on a message board that things can easily get lost in translation.

2) I will say this week if Paxton has a bad game that I will say he had a bad game even if we win. Not every player has a great game every time we win. Manning had quite a few terrible games last year that we still won. The Super Bowl is a great showing of that.

3) I also don't see the issue on this board with us talking about the good and bad of this team even while they are winning. Even an undefeated team can still get better. Siemian even though he has been good I can promise you he has been evaluating himself very harshly over the first 4 weeks of the season. I can promise you he is paying more attention to the throws he missed more so than the throws he made. So I guess I don't see why we as fans can't do some similar things of seeing how this team can get better no matter who is under center.

4) I'm not jealous of anything about this team or anything I was wrong on. Yes I didn't see Siemian being as good as he has been to start the season. Doesn't mean that I am not cheering with everything I have every Sunday for him to go out and be successful. I am more than happy to eat my crow on him being better than I thought. And I guess I don't see why you have to keep bringing it up. We get it you said Siemian would be our starter. I'm glad you were right and I'm glad he has been good. Are we really on this board to point out everything wrong that others have said and lord that over them? Just seems weird to me. I mean you and I used to do the NFL draft for the Broncos on the main board. We didn't agree every time on players but if one of us was wrong on a player we didn't lord it over each other. And when one of us was right I always thought we congratulated the other on doing a great job of scouting the player.

Not sure what to say to you, Randy - but in my opinion Carl surely has not taken any hit on his fandom here - so not sure what you are driving at. As an outsider it appears you have a long standing grudge and take any shots (including wild off the mark shots) at Carl whenever you can. In my opinion you should drop the personal attacks - but I'm sure you won't see it that way.

To the actual topic yes I am very excited to see what Paxton can do. I honestly have no clue how the Falcons could even prepare for him as they will probably know little to nothing about what to expect. I would say they will see 5-7 bootleg type plays. Which then because of worrying about him getting to the outside means that cut back lane should be wide open this game. I would expect something like 4-6 deep ball attempts. And the rest being a lot of the 10-20 yard range throws as that is his sweet spot. I'm hoping they work hard to get him into a rhythm early with some easy reads and some easy throws.

Mostly though today will depend a lot on getting the run game going again. Not only does the run game wear out the opposing team but keeps that high powered offense off the field. The Falcons have not been involved in a game like that of the Broncos that actually try to play a bit more ball control instead of just trying to outscore the opponent.

Also just a quick note about our coaching staff and why they are 2nd to none when it comes to not leaving the team in a bind when a back up has to start. Probably the biggest strength of this entire coaching staff is their ability to teach. As Elway has famously said "we do not draft All-Pro's, hopefully, we can make them here." Well I would say this coaching staff does just that.

And Paxton Lynch is a great example of that. Through training camp we heard that they had a 2nd field that they stuck the 3rd string guys on to help give all those players double the reps that the 1st and 2nd string guys got. This was a great way to help speed up their growth in the NFL and give the coaches the best look at the guys who had the most potential for growth.

Beyond that at least for Paxton the coaches started working on trying to force him to learn the playbook and digest information as quickly as possible. Instead of giving him the 40 second play clock to hear a play, call it in the huddle, then get up to the line of scrimmage they put that down at 25 seconds to get him moving faster and having to relay all the information just a bit quicker. While there were struggles with this in the beginning I do think this has helped him to learn the playbook just a bit faster.

The other thing is like we saw last year with Manning and Osweiler they both got snaps with the 1st string offense most practices. Same with Lynch and Siemian. So Lynch isn't coming in with no snaps throwing to DT and Sanders and working behind the Broncos 1st team OL. We saw how much that paid off last year in having both QB's get some opportunities and hopefully today we see that same pay off.

This game is and always was about the defense putting the lid on that Falcons offense. The move to Lynch at QB is just a minor adjustment for the Broncos. The offense is just as capable and perhaps even more so than with Siemian. This is why we love our team: They are ready to play even with injuries. Sitting Trevor is a wise decision because there is no need to put an injured QB out there and risk his long term viability to the team, not to mention his health as a whole. Lynch should probably start Thursday's game as well, given the short week. Then in the 10 days between the Chargers and Texans (MNF in week 7) evaluate and turn it back over to Siemian. He should be fully healthy by then.

The real story here is the bright future that the Broncos are cultivating. Although there is some disagreement as to who should be the starting quarterback, the team is winning and hopefully will continue to win with both.
  1. Both QB's are locked up for a good amount of years at a low price, thus allowing the Broncos to continue to retain and attract top talent
  2. The QB situation gives the team ample time to develop young players and keep them competitive.
  3. At some point, the Broncos will have great trade leverage with one of these young quarterbacks.
  4. Depending on injuries and on the upcoming opponent, the Broncos have TWO quarterbacks that can be inserted into the game plan.
  5. The Super Bowl window will not be closing anytime soon.
I hope Siemian heals up nicely and is ready to go. I hope Paxton Lynch lights 'em up and continues to develop. I hope the Broncos continue to win, starting with a crushing of the Falcons. Isn't this the sentiment of ALL Broncos fans?! Go Broncos!

This.

Siemian is in year 2 of a 4 year contract. Lynch is in year 1 of his rookie deal and since he's a first round pick the Broncos can exercise a 5th year option for him. My guess is Siemian will be traded at the end of next season and the Broncos will get a 2nd round pick for him. To flip a 7th rounder into a 2nd rounder is pretty impressive. It's a QB hungry league though, so it's not unreasonable to believe Siemian would be that attractive to a team with a need at the position.

PS: I'd laugh my ass off if it was the Texans who made that trade!

I wished TS was healthy and starting today. Continuity is probably more important at this point than anything else but since Lynch is starting I am looking forward to his first game in Mile High.

Very few Atlanta Falcons fans around to discuss much of anything.

Personally, I think the Broncos will win this one. I'm not quite over the top as most Bronco fans are and I think the Falcons will put up some points. The Falcons have played pretty well and the offense has really clicked, especially the passing game.

If I were the HC of the Falcons.......On the Broncos first possession, I'd have 8 in the box and man to man on the receivers. I'd blitz like hellfire to see if I could rattle Lynch. I'd try to set him into a totally defensive mindset right off the bat. Whether it worked or not, I'd play honest 4-3 for the next few plays.

It's all new to Lynch and I expect him to get some extra protection to start so he can get just a bit comfortable.

He's lucky................he gets a home start today. This would be a hell of a lot different if he had to start in Atlanta.

I think Broncos fans are cautiously optimistic about Lynch and Siemian. There's so much more football to play this season but both of them have looked pretty good so far. I also think that a lot of fans believe that this will be our toughest match-up to date, so many are predicting a tight game as you are.

Interesting comments on blitzing Lynch. Siemian was blitzed 12% of the game when the Broncos played the Bengals. Lynch was blitzed close to 40% of the game that he was in versus the Bucs. The blitzing that Lynch faced in the Bucs game did not seem to bother him and provided an opportunity for him to highlight his ability to escape pressure.

I agree that if I were the Falcons coach, I would try to blitzing him to see how he holds up to that pressure but I'm not sure it's going to rattle the kid, if he performs like he did in Tampa. Should be a great game!

This is one of those games that could go down to the wire, but it is also one - where if the Broncos get an early lead - could turn into a rout.

There's no reason - I know - to believe Matt Flynn will magically do better passing against the Broncos than the series of QBs the Broncos have faced going back to last year's playoffs. It is always good to see the Broncos secondary get challenged.

Webster is a much more key player than the headlnes indicate - sorry to see him out of the game. I guess Doss gets more snaps.

The Falcons traded for and are starting Matt Flynn? Whoa! Or did Matty Ice change his name in order to come into Mile High incognito? Crazy either way!
